Hey everyone,

I recently completed a new PC build with a ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1 motherboard. The entire PC is working great, but the ONLY issue I am having is with the onboard USB 3.0.

Symptoms:
-When I plug in my WD external USB 3.0 Hard Drive into a USB 3.0 port, I get nothing. The drive does not show up at all. The little LED light on the drive turns on, but does not blink.
-When I connect the same WD HD to a USB 2.0 port, it works fine and the little LED on the drive starts blinking. I get the popup saying that the drive can perform faster when connected to a USB 3.0 port.
-When I plug my phone into a USB port (Galaxy S4), I have the same results as above. Doesn't work with USB 3.0 ports, but does with 2.0 ports
-When I plug my keyboard/mouse into any USB 3.0 port, they work just fine.

I have tried using the CD ROM that came with the motherboard to install USB drivers. I have also tried downloading them from the ASUS webpage. And I have also tried letting Windows automatically install drivers. Nothing has worked, but driver installation has always been a little confusing to me, and I don't know how to make sure the right driver is actually installed.

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Check your usb3.0 plug from the case is plugged into the mobo.

Check in Control Panel, Device Manager that your usb3.0 devices are working properly and the drivers are up top date. Did you update all the mobo drivers?

Make sure you've installed the external HDD drivers.

As per the user manual of the motherboard apparently the USB3 port, some of them are shared with PCI E slot. I remember seeing this option to Enable / Disable in BIOS. Since I do not have any USB3 drives plugged in for the moment, I probably do not have this issue.

I believe if we Enable USB3 in BIOS then the PCI E slot performs at PCI E 2.0 speeds as per BIOS. I am sorry but I am not an expert on this, but I just thought it might help what I have noticed. If in anyway my information is incorrect please excuse me.

I hope this info helps. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Regards

Nice to know I'm not the only one having this problem. If I had another USB 3.0 device I could test... But so far my WD drive and my Galaxy S4 do not get USB 3.0 connection...

Wonder if Asus will offer new drivers or if there is a work around?

i tried it with 3 z97 asus boards, icluding 1 z97 hero and 2 z97 ranger, all were the same. RMA won't solve anything. Some devices work, some devices won't. There is a compatibility issue in these boards. I wrote to Asus support, they said they will forward the issue to technical staff, but nothing new for about four months. I won't be buying Asus again.

That's not that simple. It's my Samsung M3 1 tb portable harddrive that doesn't work properly with Asus z97 hero. It works flawlessly with all other mainboards. (like m5a97 r 2.0 of asus, or any laptop computers) But it simply doesn't work with any of the asus z97 chipset motherboards including maximus 7 hero and maximus 7 ranger. I can't simply understand the arrogance asus members have. what do you mean "not plugging them in properly" ? Is this a joke? ı have standart hands, fingers to hold the cable and push it into the usb socket. Nothing special to plug in. Please be more respectful.
