I recently bought the Asus 5x Blu-Ray combo SBC-06D2X-U.

The problem I am having is the drive will not read a single disc. When I look at Device Manager the Drive goes from Driver Installed to No Driver Installedb when I insert a disc. It doesn't matter if the disc is a CD, DVD or Blu-Ray they all do the same.

The only time Device Manager shows the driver installed and the drive working properly is when there is no disc at all in the drive.

I got this drive because it was listed as working with Win XP 64 Bit. I've been trying to find solutions for this on the net but there don't seem to be any, along seemingly with the drivers.

Edit: It appears that the drive didn't like my USB hub. I had to plug it straight into the computer for it to stop disappearing on me. Now if I could just get it to show Blu-Ray's properly in My Computer (when a DVD is inserted it shows the name of the DVD, but when a Blu-ray is inserted it says CD Drive and when clicked on it says the disc is corrupted or can't be read). I can still play a Blu-ray though via the Blu-ray player, I just can't explore it in Windows. Tried the UDF Reader 2.5 download from Videohelp.com but when I tried to install it nothing happens and even after reboot it doesn't seem to work. Oh well that is minor as long as the Blu-ray player I got can read the disc so I can watch the movie.

Solution
Usually when dealing with systems that have aged, it's not a good idea to plug multiple device or even a single device off a hub. With that bit stated you'll need drivers for your external Bluray burner to run optimally on your OS and sadly it has support for at least Windows 7.

More here and here. * Did you perform a firmware update via the drivers disc bundled in the box for your external burner?
