Question asus sdrw-08U9M-U optical/laser caution when using ?

Okey, I dont want to sound to paranoid but here it goes...I know I do.

I just bought asus sdrw-08U9M-U drive, and I opened it and looked at it plugged in. I started to think that can the optical/laser part of the drive damage eyes if its plugged in and I insert the disc looking at the the inside tray when its opened. Or will the optical/laser reading only activate once the disc is inserted and the tray is closed and it starts spinning ?

Yes, it will activate only when closed and actually working - reading or writing. Those actions are prevented when the disk tray is not fully closed and locked.
