So I want to get an Asus 1070 because after much research I've found it to be the better one for me, only thing is there are a few versions.
The O8g and the 8g.
I get the one is for over clocking but I thought they both do that. So basically which one is the better one to buy and for what reason?

Thanks in advance

quite honestly any gtx1070 with a decent cooler will be able to boost way by what it says on the box

just got a palit gtx1070 was £40 cheaper than all the others

so far have got it boosting to 2.1ghz with out much serious effort

once i get my water block for it then will get serious with it

The rule of thumb is that a factory overclocked card is guaranteed to run at that speed without stability problems. The GPU chips have been tested to run at those speeds. A non-overclocked variant may or may not be able to overclock at the factory overclocked GPU's speed without having stability problems or artifacts.

It depends on the "silicon lottery" of the GPU chip chosen that day for the non-overclocked GPU. Further, a factory overclocked GPU can be pushed up even higher. My EVGA GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ GPUs (in SLI) came aggressively overclocked from the factory but I can push them up another 10% and get GTX 980 performance out of them. A non-factory overclocked version likely wouldn't have a chance of doing that.

I will say this about ASUS GPUs however: generally they are found to not overclock as well as some of the other card makers like EVGA, MSI, and Gigabyte (factory overclocked OR stock). This has been the case through several generations of Nvidia GPUs. With that said, they are still a solid choice GPU maker.

with the gtx1070 even the reference card is more likely than not to break the 2ghz barrier though will run hotter

cant say have seen a review of any gtx1070 that couldnt do over 2ghz

they have been quite conservative with this series of cards i dont think which ever gtx1070 you get you would be disappointed

palit wouldnt normally have been my choice(usually go for msi) but saved £40 or more and knew it would do over 2ghz any way
