Asus Strix GTX 960 4GB or Nvidia 1060, the 3Gb version

Hello everyone,
I would like to kindly ask for advice,
I'm on a rather tight budget, and I have two narrowed down my options to two Pc's with the same characteristics:
-i5 4460 3.2Ghz (4th gen, up to 3.4Ghz)
-8Gb Ram (1600MHz)
-Motherboard Asus H81m-K

They're both around the same price, but the only difference is the GPU, as follows:
-Asus Strix GTX 960 4Gb DRR5/OC
-Nvidia GTX 1060 3Gb DDR5

I have asked around, but whenever I inquired about the 1060 (that seems like the obvious choice) I get the same response, either it's frowned upon, or I get told to put together some more cash and get the 6gb version, (which is not really an option for me right now.)

So I ask you guys,
Will the 960 4gb do for me? or should I consider the 3Gb 1060 instead?

(I'll be using this pc mainly for gaming, things like Witcher 3, GTA V, Assassins Creed series, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex mankind divided, and so on)

A 1060, no doubt about it.

A GTX 960 wasn't a very good price to performance card when it launched - the 950 or 970 made more sense.

While you're right, the 6GB would be preferred, even the 3GB 1060 performs ~GTX 980 level.

definitely the 1060.

1060 for sure! Just lower MSAA and textures if needed and you'll be set!

The extra 1GB on the 960 won't even be used much.
