My old graphics card recently packed in so I upgraded to the ASUS strix gtx 970, fitted it, installed the driver etc. and have been having consistent issues with a grey or blue screen that requires a restart to complete.
I am predominantly playing World of Warcraft at the moment and it seems that the comination of higher graphics settings and fullscreen mode contibute to this the most (though I did have the issue occur once with higher graphics and windowed mode). The game runs fine though I would not say to the potential of the card (~70fps on higher res and some slow down at more graphically intense moments). I also booted up DOOM and shadow of mordor on ultra for a test and that ran smooth as you like though it was only for a short period so I cannot say the issue is WoW specific.
The main hardware component I am questioning is my PSU, EZCOOL Ambiance 80+ 700W. I've read a couple of places online saying its a no-go and there was only a 6pin PCI cable attached (I have bought a 6+2 pin adapter that goes on one of the ends of the 6pin), could this be part of the issue?
My previous graphics card went with no warning and no physical damage so I am suspicious of my PSU surging which fried the last one and is causing my current one to shut off. should I be looking for a new PSU?
Any input on what I should do would be greatly appreciated, I want to be able to have the full potential of this graphics card.
Thanks
