So for my gaming computer build, I'm trying to decide between these two cards. both are gtx 970, and they both get pretty good reviews. I'm not interested in overclocking them, and the msi costs about $20 or so more? What do you guys think.

well it seems the msi card has a strong following and a good/better end user rating over the rest ??? but for some it maybe personal preference comes into play

If you want a pro overclocker with a farely decent cooling solution, the Strix. Otherwise if you want something with a much higher clock and a very good cooling solution G1 Gaming.
not as high as evga scc+ and most times costs more . 3 fans to do the same job as cards with 2 and just if any slight cooling gains + added noise from the extra fan + its so long it may have fit issues in his case ?? evga is 10'' one of the shortest/narrowest and less case fit risk ..
not to say evga is the greatest but there 3ed revision cards are better then there 1st and 2ed with the improved cooler and vrm's
as with 900 cards and there issues like coil whine and you felt the need for rma or warrantee evga will treat you better and faster if you need it [opinion]
so for me msi or evga [more opinion]
in the end it you who needs to do the homework and decide what you feel is best for you

Well no shit the EVGA has high clocks... its not like I didn't know that, each core clock I have seen on EVGA has more then 1200+MHz, if I wanted something with an extremely high clock, I'd without question go with EVGA. G1 Gaming has a decently high clock, and the cooling solution is supposed to perform better then 2 fans (that's why there is 3...) MSI and ASUS are very good at overclocking, and so is Gigabyte. In the end it all comes down to preference on what fits best for you. For me I like it to be good at overclocking fairly good cooling, doesn't matter what the core clock is for me though, and that is why I went with Strix.
Also want to point out coil whine is a recurring issue in every Maxwell card. In most cases you might just have to deal with it if you don't feel the need to RMA it. For me though I haven't noticed any coil whine in my Strix since I bought it.
Thanks guys. like I said, I'm not interested in overclocking, so I'm leaning towards the msi or maybe even evga. then again, my case is black with red LEDs.
