Asus Strix X99 motherboard has some power but wont boot

I've got a new Asus Strix X99 motherboard connected to a Corsair HX850i PSU (have actually tried two PSUs) I've installed an i7-6850 CPU.

Nothing else connected and sitting on wooden desk.

Various LEDs light up but no Qcode displayed. Should I expect it to be?

Would a Qcode be displayed if I turned it on without a CPU?

I've never been able to get the full system to boot up and never had a Qcode displayed.

Can you post a picture of the motherboard?

Try installing the CPU cooler and then connecting the 8 pin power cable to the motherboard. Start the board and see if getting any code.

8pin power connector? The fan only has a 4 pin connector. Is there another power connector I need to connect?
