I'm buying a simple and not-so-powerful laptop for Internet working, using word, etc., and programming, watching movies, etc. I'm really caught between these two laptops. Both are very similar. Both here are i3, 4GB RAM, 2GB dedicated graphics (Asus is NVIDIA GeForce 840M; Lenovo is AMD Radeon R5 M230).
The first major difference is that this Asus is convertible and with touchscreen. Someone told me that Asus laptops are bad and not reliable. Also, he told me that something that is convertible with flipping, touchscreen, etc. is subject to malfunctioning and is expected to give me trouble. I like the idea of a convertible, and this is the major plus in this laptop's favor, so my question is: if anyone tried this Asus laptop or has knowledge, should I buy this laptop? Is it reliable? Will it last? Or will it cause me trouble and subject me to the bad Asus tech support (also heard that from others and the Internet)? Also, in general, is Asus a reliable brand?
As for the Lenovo, its plus is that it has a DVD drive. Someone here once suggested to take out the DVD and put instead the hard drive, then put an SSD for the operating system. Other than that, a DVD also has its advantages. I think, but I'm not sure, that this laptop's resolution is 1300 x 700 (not exactly that but I'm sure u know this standard resolution- I don't remember it) and that the Asus one is full hd 1920 x 1080. The Lenovo is about 14 dollars cheaper than the Asus.
Should I buy the Lenovo because it's Lenovo (maybe more reliable and better) and because of the DVD? Or should I go for the Asus and be sure that it will last and prove reliable, thus getting the convertible and touchscreen feature as well, plus the full hd advantage (if it's true) and the NVIDIA chip (if it's better than the AMD Radeon)?
Btw the Asus is i3 4030 with 1.9 ghz while the Lenovo is i3 4010 with 1.7 ghz.
Thanks a lot for any help.
