hello I'm trying to install windows 7 on as a secondary OS on a pc that already has windows 10.

I created my partition and when I went to install windows 7 it said I "windows cannot be installed to this disk. the selected disk is of the gpt partition style"

After some searching I saw that I needed to boot in UEFI mode. I use the Asus x99 - deluxe motherboard. I've tried quite a few things but I'm still unable to boot into UEFI.

I've done the following:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnOHi0w77bU
https://www.all4os.com/windows/disable-asus-motherboards-uefi-secure-boot.html

Even though it says my secure boot is disabled it will not allow me to boot from the uefi options for example when I try to boot from "UEFI: Lexar USB" the screen flashes black for a second and it returns to the bios. When I try to launch through just the "Lexar USB" it boots just fine but I get the same gpt partition error as before..

Also if I enter advanced mode in the bios and go to the exit option then select "Launch EFI Shell from USB Drives" it tells me secure boot is enabled.. but upon checking I se the same grayed out secure boot disabled.

Any help is welcome

I had the same issue when I was trying to create a UEFI based RAID array, couldnt get the USB stick to boot, only in legacy mode, eventually with a lot of hair pulling out and studying I found the answer:

download rufus 2.12 http://filehippo.com/download_rufus/
plug in your USB stick
open rufus, and in device at the top select your USB stick if its not already done it automatically.
file system FAT32
now browse to the windows 7 ISO
after its loaded your ISO make sure quick format is selected and standard windows install, check device 1 pass is optional.
now go back to the top and select GPT partition scheme for UEFI in the 2nd menu option, (make sure you leave this option till last,
otherwise it will change as...

now start, takes a while

now reboot and try and boot from it in UEFI mode.
