Asus VG23AH IPS or something else....

So Newegg and Amazon and pretty much anywhere else is out of stock of the Asus VG23AH and i really liked the monitor its semi glossy, can OC to 70ish hz, has DVI, and HDMI, low ms and is in general a very solid panel. Unfortuantely it looks like its sold out absolutely everywhere and no new stock will ever come because the monitor is a couple years old now.

That being the case is there any other 5ms IPS monitor that has at least 1 dvi and 1 hdmi or x2 hdmi and is semi glossy, or even glossy for me to look at? I want it to be 23" but i could settle for 24" if its 1080p.

Or better yet is there any place that just has stock of the Asus, i couldn't find it anywhere.

Well i will surely be getting an oculus but i wont want to make it a monitor replacement that would be silly i think. I just want to replace my VG248QE, I cant stand the banding and gradient performance that i get with it. I can appreciate the 144hz but if i can get an IPS screen with 5ms that can do 75hz that will be plenty for me. I'm not some pro fps gamer so the small advantage i may get with the high refresh rate isnt worth the poor color performance.

I'm avoiding the MX239H like the plague, i had it a month ago and it had extreme bleed/glow in the lower left corner and i believe they are all like that pretty much. The design is lovely but its not gonna sell me.

The VN-248H and VN-248H-P is the same panel i believe except the P is a revision or something but this monitor actually has me interested. It has two hdmi ports which is fine, one of them i can use a hdmi to dvi for pc and the other to hook up the PS4. The VGA is useless though, not sure why they're on monitors anymore ha...

The VS239H-P is at 23" but has a glossy bezel and just doesn't seem as nice as the VN248H-P. It does have DVI though but its bad outweigh the good so i'll pass on it.

VN248H-P definitely has me interested, it has a a nice slim matte bezel and is only .2 inches smaller than what i use now so it wont feel like a size downgrade at all. Also although it isn't a semi glossy or glossy panel its definitely a less aggressive AG coating than the VG248QE so i should see images a bit clearer with it. I believe we have a winner here. However i'll see if anyone else has any other suggestions before picking a solution :)

Asus has a G-sync 1400p monitor for $800 and there are going to have some 4k monitors going down in price.

Its funny how im using a VG248QE also :) Yeah the colors shift alot, not really great with colors. I heard that turning the refresh/Hz down to 60Hz helps with the colors.

I dont think there are issues with the colors at 60-120hz its at 144hz where they take a hit. If i ran this monitor at 60hz that would completely defeat its purpose though. 120hz is fine for me. I know about the 1440p resolution gsync monitor, im pretty excited about it but not for $800, maybe once its in the 500-600 dollar range i will buy one.

overlord is also coming out with a tru 1440p ips monitor, the swift looks sexy but it is a tn panel none the less. i personally dont like tn i love the colors in ips panels and so long as you dont play fps competively you cant really tell a difference. i have a asus 27 ah monitor and it is beautiful in games. racing games suck with the input lag though.

and if your getting a ips go with semi glossy or glossy. matte displays kill the color reproduction.

Yeah i want a semi glossy/glossy although all the ones you linked me are matte albeit not very heavy matte coatings. Unfortunately they dont make many semi/glossy monitors anymore.

What do you mean true 1440p ips? I thought they already had those with some models being able to OC to 100hz+

they do have some that will unofficially support 120hz and overlord does have some already that are guaranteed 96hz but thy do not have the gsync chip the sift will be the first 1440p monitor that has one and then the tempest by overlord.

what i meant by that is the swift in all its glory is still a tn panel like the one you currently have just a higher resolution so the colors arent anywhere near as good. no matter what the monitor is if you pu a tn next to a ips you can def tell the difference.

and sorry i didnt know those were all mattes ill try to find some that arent matte.
is that your budget though around 200 and 24 in? because they still carry the one i have but it is 27 and 300

My budget is between 200-300, and i didnt need a 24" just 23"-24" so a 23" would have been perfectly acceptable. I assume your 27" is 1080 though right? I have seen what 27" 1080p looks like from 2 feet away ( the distance i typically sit from my monitor) and i do notice the pixels are pretty large since the PPI is only around 81. But i'll take a look at it so by all means give me a link to it.

Looks like a pretty solid monitor but its 16:10 and although for pc purposes it would be nice to have the extra 120 pixels it wouldn't be so good on console since i would either have to deal with black bars or a stretched image and even if it ran at 16:9 that isn't its native aspect ratio so it wouldn't look as nice :(

What do you think of the H236HLbid from Acer? Its fairly cheap and is glossy, but there doesn't seem to be any deep review on it.

I seem to be stuck between the Acer H236HLbid right now and the Asus VN248H-P from earlier. I'd like to know if the Acer has an AH-IPS panel like the Asus. If the Acer is AH-IPS i will probably instantly buy that, its glossy, perfect size, has dvi and hdmi, pretty stylish, and is $40 cheaper.

sorry had to step out for a bit...
every place i have checked keeps saying it is a regular ips. i know it is only semi gloss but ah-ips is better. some paople cant tell the difference but you sound like your keen to pixels so i wouldnt go with the acer it is probably a s-ips if anything and even that is out matched if you have the eye for it. really depends on how sesitive you are when it comes to how the screen produces images

I guess if i went with the asus VN-248H-P i shouldn't have any regrets, its AH-IPS and matte but less grainy, to be honest i dont even care about the grainyness with my VG248QE, i can see what people mean when i look at white backgrounds but it doesnt bother me one bit im used to seeing it like this. Still would be nice to get a glossy panel for the added pop, Acer doesnt have anything new available does it? or for that matter any other brand im not loyal to anyone in particular.

apparently it is rather hard to find an ah-ips monitor in 23-24 in the only ones i keep coming up with are asus.

have you ever thought about 1440p? if you have the graphic horsepower they have the korean deals with perfect pixel guarantee

Yeah i thought of 1440p but i will need a 1080 monitor anyways to have a ps4 hooked up to, on a 1440p monitor it will look pretty bad playing 1080p res games. I'm still waiting on Maxwell cards and broadwell later this year for a new pc build and at that time i will decide on a 1440p monitor. I'm also interested to see what the 1440 gsync monitor will be like even though its TN. So basically I'm not in the market for 1440p just yet.

I think i've made my decision though, I'll be taking a shot at the VN248H-P, it just recently got a price cut from $190 to $170 too plus $15 off and $20 rebate so i can have it for $135 before taxes which is a sweet deal i reckon.

wow that is a sweet deal id jump on it

and i am waiting on the 8xx series as well...broadwell not so much, skylake is rumored to be the next jump in performance but broadwell just looks like a die shrink with less power consumption and less overclocking. haswell-e however comes out at the end of this year and is supposed to be a big improvement on the x79 chipset series and the cpu's that came with it. so im trying to hold out for that just to see but it is probably going to be priced the same as the ib-e

Okay i ordered the asus, i should have it by the end of the week and will see how it is. Hopefully its not DOA and has no dead pixels or backlight bleed. I'm expecting some IPS glow but so long as its minimal i can deal with it.

I know broadwell is only a die shrink but the time i plan to make a new build it will be the best processor around not including haswell-e, I dont see the point of paying $500 or more for a CPU when i can get an i7 for $300 or i5 for $200 that will be more than enough for my needs. Only thing thats a bummer is broadwell wont be supporting DDR4 supposedly while Haswell-E will

well i think ddr4 is just native 2133 so its not that big of a difference you can still get 2133 cl10 ddr3 mem. so unless the cas latency is like 7 or 8 it wont be much of an improvement in gaming. and haswell-e would be tempting if it has a 4820k equivalent processor because those are cheaper then 4770k right now and perform about the same and if your going to buy a highend 250 dollar motherboard there wouldnt be much difference in price just performance.

and i have always loved asus ips monitors because i have never had any problems with them. i have only had 2 but both were flawless so hopefully there new products are the same.
