I still have a CRT so I'm still new to Hz and what not. If I plug my Xbox to an Asus VG248QE will I be able to experience 144Hz??

Most console games are likely to be written and optimized for 1080p30 or 1080i60. Support for more than 60Hz is unlikely since they have about just enough processing power for 1080p60 without having to compromise (much) on image quality.

Thanks for all of the answers guys. I'm just looking for the best possible replacement option for my CRT. Oh how much I despise input lag!

Tom's Hardware convinced me to purchase VG248QE. After a week of usage, I feel quite happy.

But I wonder if Tom's Hardware even bothered to test-drive the calibration settings. They are poor.

Trace free = 100 causes horrendous ghosting, both in gaming and web-surfing.

Brightness = 35 is too dim and the picture look dull, although the back-light is strong (you can't lower gamma whatsoever).

Luckily, I found a fine calibration online -

First, make sure you are using "Standard" mode. DO NOT use any of the other modes unless you really need access to any of the locked-out settings (you shouldn't). "Night View Mode" in particular is VERY BAD and will destroy your black levels completely.

Brightness: 55 (feel free to adjust this one up or down based on preference)
Contrast: 88
Color Temp.: User Mode - Red 90/Green 90/Blue 90 (this monitor is wonderfully neutral, I was surprised)
Smart View: Off
TraceFree: 60 (40 is also good, and might be more desirable for non-gaming instances of motion on-screen)

[end of quote]

Anyone happens to love Tom's Hardware's calibration? Let me know!

We need 1440p/144hz at less then $US700k. Id be in the market for that.Though Yamakasi sells something near that price range. Or use too.I like my Yamakasi perfect pixel. it took me 4hrs to get the OSD to change from korean to english .I use it most of the time for browsing. I am using a Eizo really only for BF3. It seems like I am on this game for such long periods I have to have a timer to take a break. I am not sure if I really notice the difference between 144hz and 240hz. My eyes feel better on a 240hz screen. I wonder if anyone else thinks that is the case?

check out overlord - although 144 at 1440 is a ways off i would imagine

Most manufacturers of OC-able (up to) 120Hz monitors will state they don't recommend multi-card setups and will encourage a 96Hz refresh rate rather than 120Hz. I wonder why?

Probably because the panels themselves are not designed or rated for the drive voltage/current necessary to switch pixels that quickly, which usually translates into accelerated aging and increased failure rates.

I've had several 2b cats for almost 2 years and brightness is the same and other specs are dead on what it was (using my colorimeter). Haven't seen anything yet that says I am ahead of the 4-5 yr lifespan on the IPS panel. Just my panels of course.

Just curious... Are you running an SLI or crossfire setup with these monitors?

The EIZO 240Hz isn't accepting 240Hz signal, it does double a 120Hz signal putting a black (monitor lights turned off?) artificial frame between each original frame like many 200Hz-multiple TVs do. Artificial frames are always bad. Not High Fidelity at all, just marketing, gimmicks, and/or ways to improve poor performance monitors/TVs.

I'm guessing you're responding to duckhunt?

At any rate, TVs that say 120Hz or 240Hz only accept 60Hz input signals. Like you said, they add frames usually through a method of duplication. This adds input lag and is not better. If I were running games through any TV (PC or otherwise), I'd turn off any video enhancements that push the output refresh rates to 120Hz or 240Hz to minimize input lag.

SLI for the entire time (with different cards from 500s to now 780s). No issues.

The sad fact is the manufacturer does not guarantee this OC performance and do not see it as a product defect if you cannot achieve the 120Hz on these monitors so there is a bit of luck involved with this. You are one of the lucky ones.
