Hey,
I just recently purchased a VG248QE and it arrived today. I've been trying to use it but it's essentially impossible with the amount of eyestrain and migraines I get. I changed my settings according to what other people have and nothing works. Is it possible that I received a defective monitor?

That monitor uses PWM for backlight dimming (more info: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/pulse_width_modulation.htm). It's known to cause eyestrain and headache. Monitors that don't use pwm are often labaled as "flicker-free".

Do a test and turn the brightness to 100% (in the monitor setting), then see if your headache seem to get away a little bit. If it does, you can be sure it's the pwm. (which is not a defect).

There are alternative 144hz 1080p 24" monitor that doesnt use pwm, like the LG 24gm77-b and the BenQ XL2411z/2420z. (i think all the XL series are flicker-free)
