Most days I spend 8-15 hours a day in front of the monitor. 50~% of this are games, 25~% movie and tv shows. I play a lot including games like CS, DotA2, but I'm not hardcore competitive, I like to enjoy some casual games with my girlfriend and drool at the scenery in Skyrim as well.

I have a 300$ budget for a new monitor, this can go up to 450$ for a very efficient decision.

Currently I have an LG Flatron W2243S
(!)Flickers at 60hz, and I have to use a DVI->VGA adapter for it, so most of what I can get is probably a substantial upgrade.

(?!)Most importantly my girlfriend gets nausea when watching the screen if I play a very dynamic game. She thinks this didn't happen on the previous monitor(which was also 60hz). I was wondering if a monitor with higher refresh rate would help with it.

(?)I was wondering how much a high refresh rate like 120-144 would help when I usually play around 50-60 fps. From what I understand it will still help with the blur and artifacts, but is it worth it?

I've read VG248QE is best for gaming for it's price, but what I get from some topics in forum say IPS makes a huge difference for the eye-candy so I'm open for all suggestions as long as it's efficient for my circumstances.

Please advise.

For your girlfriend, she may like the 120hz option, with lowered settings to allow for 80+ FPS. I personally have a nausea issue as well, and with a 120hz screen and 80+ FPS, I no longer get nauseated from 1st person games. They feel much more responsive now, and that removes the nausea for me.

For yourself, you may find a higher resolution more tempting, though the future possibility of G-sync on that monitor in a few months would even make 50-60 FPS much better in responsiveness or lack of tearing/stuttering, though that would also require the upgrade kit and a Kepler based card or newer.

I need more info and advice, how about monitor names? Is there a sort of middle ground between IPS and TN? An IPS monitor with less input lag and response time, or a TN with good image?
Can't wait for G-Sync by the way, I mean literally 😛 The flickering is a bit too much to go with for months.
