Got the VG248QE not too long ago and I'm currently trying to get the best picture quality I can out of this thing. Came across this thread on reddit, which I know has been fairly popular for this particular monitor.

Applied the monitor OSD settings as per the post, but I've found when I use the color profile the colors do become richer but blacks get crushed. Using this for black reference

With the aforementioned profile, I lose squares 1-4.

Does anyone have this monitor? Advice for proper settings and color profile usage?

Well, obviously you'll have better color quality, faster response times and a better viewing angle, just like the Wikipedia descriptions says.

But seriously, if you are a videophile you at least want an IPS, VA or PLS. It just depends on what matters most to you. Accurate color reproduction, fast response times, better viewing angles or all of them.

Those are actually the settings that the reddit thread borrowed, and what I'm currently using. Honestly the only time I've really noticed the 144hz is when dragging windows around my desktop, or on the BlurBusters site. Haven't seen an immense difference in gaming, which is the reason I bought it.

Do you think I might be better off going with an IPS panel, as I'm not hugely satisfied with the color depth/viewing angles? Coming from a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW, I'm just not 100% sure this VG248QE is a $260 difference (what I paid).

Hey I bought this monitor about 2 months ago and I've been working on the perfect settings, in my eyes....
Anyway here as follow:

Theater Mode
Contrast 83
Saturation 42
Colour temp is User Mode and all colour settings to 83
Skin tone Natural
Sharpness 50
Trace free 40
ASCR ON ( i enjoy having a bright monitor when I game.. but this is up to you. Adjust the brightness as you wish if you'd like this setting off)

This is my personal preference; everything from gaming to youtube videos, faces, landscapes and even black and whites, to me, look perfect.

Give it a try and hope it works out for you man..

Also, PLEASE use DISPLAY PORT 1.2 Cable and NOT HDMI.. You're wasting the potential of this monitor with hdmi. Also, use YcbCr setting if possible for best use of the monitors high dynamic contrast ratio and dynamic colours on theater mode...

Enjoy

I realize that this thread is months old, but I wanted to say thanks for that post. Those settings really did make a difference with this monitor. Way better than the others that I've tried.

So you would recommend someone who is about to get this monitor to use these settings instead of any other profiles online?
