So recently my old work oc has failed and now doesn't boot anymore (black screen, doesn't beep).

I brought up my Asus Notebook Pc Laptop to use at my work, but I can't stand the laptop screen for long periods and actual work.
Trying to get it to work with my trusty 24" DEL monitor but it won't work.

I bought a DVI-I FEMALE TO HDMI MALE Adapter - plugged the HDMI male side to the HDMI port on my Asus notebook and the DEL DVI-D monitor to the female DVI-I port.

This is what I bought - only I accidentally got a DVI-I (not D):

Nothing happens. Laptop doesn't seem ro regonize the monitor.
Why?
No signal on the Monitor side. Screen black. LAPTOP doesn't detect anything, tried Project to 2nd screen/Extend/duplicate.
The monitor is DEL 24" 2047 WFP 1920 x 1200

Should I try a different adapter?
Or maybe I need a DVID female to HDMI male CABLE?
What kind of set up do I need in order for it to work?
It's gotta work-it's very simple and common.

Could it be a resolution change?
(I don't have the adapter anymore because I returned it but I can get it again or whatever adapter /cable that will solve this ).

I didn't even know about that. Now that. You mention it, there seem to be a button on the F8.
However it seems windows itself does not even detect a 2nd monitor. So I don't think the button will work by itself.

I don't know if it's any different than pressing the Project (Win+P) and switch to 2nd screen/extend etc).. because that didn't work.

Also do you think an adapter or cable is preferable?

The model is: ASUS V301L
Full model number:
Asus v301la-c1089h
It's an Asus VivoBook. Listed as Ultra book in System Info.

Doesn't work!!!
Thanks for replying but unfortunately the damn laptop/HDMI won't work.

I bought an HDMI MALE TO DVI-D MALE and plugged the monitor straight to the HDMI port of the VivoBook.
Fn+F8 opens up Windows Project.
Unfortunately the Laptop doesn't recognize the 2nd screen at all.
The display goes black and does not say "no signal" meaning the connection is recognized. But if you check Display Settings or Device Manger there's no additional monitor.

What can I do now? I tried 1 DVI monitor and 1 HDTV with HDMI - both won't work.

The Laptop has built in Intel Graphics. It's native 1366x768

UPDATE: Still not working. I can't update the driver too. I tried downloading Intel Graphics HD Driver Update Utility and attempt to Scan & Update drivers - however after Intel finds a driver but say that there is a custom-manufacturer (Asus I guess) driver installed- therefore it is not recommended to install Intel driver - and the option to download the driver is grayed out.

UPDATE 2: Just checked in Device Manager > Monitors > and I can actually see the monitors as HIDDEN if I tick Show Hidden Devices... But it seems it won't go past detect the displays as hidden, not as an active display.
Seems the Laptop HDMI port doesn't work, and won't recognize any screen

Try this way:
connect external monitor, when laptop is turned off;
turn on laptop and immediately close lid of the laptop.

This should activate external display instead of laptop display.
You'll need usb keyboard and mouse to use laptop with closed lid.

BTW - there could be a setting in BIOS, that enables/disables HDMI port. Check that.

I will try that.
About the BIOS settings- I thought about that -but I don't know how to access BIOS with a laptop.
How do I enter bios and when should I start clicking on whatever I have to click?

UPDATE:
Nothing works. Tried both.
Managed to get into BIOS - but couldn't find any setting regarding HDMI.
Tried to close the lid as soon as the Asus VivoBook (or Notebook or Ultrabook or however it's called - but it didn't work either

What bugs me the most is that this Asus ultrabook isn't that old! It has USB 3.0, it originally had Windows 8. It has a touch screen, and thin modern design. It has Core i3 4010U. it's from 2012. And it looks good as new. No corrosion or any serious physical damage.
It's basically a laptop I took for my sisters and "revived" - by formatting it and installing Windows 10 on it.
It has a single HDMI port - THAT WAS NEVER USED BEFORE! - and it even has a damn HDMI sticker on it.

It makes no sense what-so-ever.
If anyone else know these Vivobooks and have some experience with them, please let me know! I am desperate.

Just wanted to update again that I'm
Seems my Asus VivoBook laptop's HDMI doesn't work properly. It doesn't detect external monitors.

I can confirm that the cables and monitors aren't the problem - since I've borrowed my friend's laptop and it works flawlessly with the same cables and monitors. They both have built-in Intel-Graphics, his laptop is an HP Pavilion.

This is my ASUS laptop model:
https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS_VivoBook_S301LA/
It's a Notebook pc.

To sum up:
1. Plugging with HDMI or with HDMI-to-DVI - both won't display anything.
2. Device Manager detects the screens as HIDDEN - however it won't detect them in DISPLAY SETTINGS - Windows/LAPTOP won't detect the 2nd screen at all.
So Extend, Duplicate and 2nd Screen Only - doesn't do anything when selected.
3. I tired restarting the laptop several times.
4. Tried closing the lid as soon as the laptop turns on.
5. Tried FN+F8 - which is the same as WINDOWS+P
6. Tried updating my on-board Intel-Graphics - wasn't able to, seems impossible.
7. NOTE: The HDMI have never been used before. Windows 10 64 bit is installed.
8. Laptop is probably from late 2014/2015! So it's not old at all and should work.

Please, can anyone help?
I need this for my daily job, and I can't borrow this PC for long...
I have looked everywhere for answers....

UPDATE:
9. When I check Sound > Playback devices I don't see any HDMI devices even when I select to show hidden.
10. Finally : today I connected the screen a few times via HDMI - Windows made the *new device connected* sound/ring- PC screen turned on and I could see the desktop for a split-second - then immediately the screen went black again and windows made the *device disconnected* sound. The monitor turns on then off instantly. I tried playing gently with the HDMI cable but to no avail. The HDMI slot doe not look damaged
