Asus vs Evga, and Sli question!

They will both run fine in SLI. A 670 is going to give you more frames per second (fps).

The link you provided is not to the Asus 670, but rather to an Asus 580.

Is this the comparison you mean to get at?

If you meant the Asus as a 580 and the EVGA as a 670, then I would go for two EVGA 670s. No question.

Given you meant both the Asus and the EVGA as 670s, it's going to depend on your motherboard. Do you have enough space to mount two three-slot GPUs on your motherboard? Either way, I'd still go for the EVGAs because of their outstanding reputation for customer service and the cooling solution that sends the hot air out the back of your case rather than into it.

That makes the Asus 7% faster outta the box than the EVGA SC, 6C cooler and almost 1/4 as loud under load (every 3 dBA is a doubling of sound level). The FTW is slightly faster than the SC, leaving the Asus model w/ just a 5% performance advantage

As for the MSI, it's 1079 MHz factory provided boost clock also pales to the Asus' 1137 Mhz

Yes, you've seen correctly, the ASUS GeForce GTX 670 Direct CU II TOP is the first graphics card ever that I gave a perfect ten score.....

The card does so without massive power consumption increase thanks to an efficient VRM design and low temperatures. ASUS has done away with NVIDIA's cheap voltage regulation circuitry and put a much better CHiL controller on the card, which also supports voltage control and monitoring.....

The ASUS DC II cooler is a revelation on the GTX 670, it provides incredibly low noise levels. In both idle and load the card emits almost no noise, it is actually quieter under full load than most other cards on the market are at idle. Not only noise is low but temperatures are great, too. With only 74°C under load the card is cooler than most other GTX 670 cards tested today.

Overall the ASUS GTX 670 Direct CU II is the best card I ever tested. I simply can't find anything wrong with it. ASUS has sucessfully addressed all the shortcomings of NVIDIA's reference design, yet asks only a moderate $20 price premium for their card. This means that you can get faster than GTX 680 performance at $420. And the card manages all that with a dual slot cooler, that just screams "put me in SLI".

but i heard there are some problems with Asus with the heat and the program, and also there is an SLI problem with the card!
oh! and i heard that Asus sucks with their RMA's while Evga has a top Rma!
 


As you can see by the review article from techpowerup above..... the program and cooling were outstanding, hence why it was the first card they ever gave a 10.0 to......the card puts out less noise under full load than most other 670's do at idle....and 74C max under load ..... that's incredible.



I'm not gonna go by "what I heard" but what my actual experiences were .....

Case 1 - Son No. 2's box.......EVGA GTX 295 FTW w/ factory overclock ..... card would never run at factory overclocked speeds..... only at "reference" speed. EVGA blamed MoBo (Rampage Extreme), Memory (Mushkin Redline CAS 7), Power Supply (Antec SG-850 w/ 10.0 jonnyguru rating). Over the course of 18 months, conducted 20 support calls, went through 5 RMA's, all at my shipping expense till finally they replaced witha stock reference 480.

Case 2 - Son No. 3's box...... Twin 560 Ti DCII Cu TOP w/factory overclock. One card was running hotter, and making noise..... it also couldn't OC (beyond factory OC) as much as the other but that of course was not a warranty issue ..... Asus exchanged the card no questions asked.

Interestingly enough, in my arguments with EVGA regarding the Case 1, after the replacement 560 arrived, I "stole" the two 560's from Son No. 3 and put them in Son No. 2's machine ..... they ran fine with a 25% OC......15% above the factory OC. It was that argument that I used with EVGA to finally get them off the "it must be some other component" argument and they subsequently sent us the 480.

Good deal. My stock clock EVGA 680s often exceed the rated boost speeds. They often get to the 1190MHzs as displayed in Precision X. I'm not overclocking. There is no need. This boost technolgy seems to kick in just fine if you have the thermal head room. I have a slightly aggressive fan profile set up in Precision X, so I think this may help. It is a very slight adjustment.

The hottest either of my cards have gotten are in the low 70Cs (also as displayed through Precision X). This is pretty cool considering my 580s - while they ran just fine - would often hit the high 80Cs.

So, since the 670s provide almost the same performance as the 680s, I would say you can expect near the same thermal performance. I think you'll be happy with the EVGAs.
 
I would definitely take ASUS.

What separates ASUS from many of their competitors is that they are both a designer and manufacture of computer components. They are not simply a reseller of reference boards.

They use proprietary manufacturing processes such as Super Alloy Power to make their chokes, capacitors, and other components.

To me I think their quality is unmatched.
