Asus VS Gigabyte Z170 Motherboard

I am looking into Digital Storm builds, one being the Eclipse. They have two different motherboard options, the Asus Z170I Pro Gaming and the Gigabyte Z170N-Gaming 5.

The price difference is only $24 bucks so I honestly don't care about the difference in price. (If you must know, Gigabyte is the cheaper option).

The only reason I'm asking is because of reliability, considering they both have the same Intel Z170 chipset, I doubt there's much of a difference in power (correct me if I'm wrong). I have heard that Gigabyte is one of the most reliable motherboard brands money can buy, and I've heard some rather bad things about Asus.

Which would you guys recommend?

The Pro Gaming, I narrowed it down to the Pro Gaming and the Hero and ended up going Hero as their Z87 and Z97 models were the best of the best with Haswell, I paired this with a 6600K. May also upgrade another rig and am thinking the Pro Gaming with the 6600K and get a 6700K for the Hero 😉

This answers my question for the most part, as with this particular site the only options are between the Gigabyte and Asus Z170. What have you heard in terms of Asus reliability?

I generally build about 25 Asus based rigs a year (out of around 50, the remainder about 60/40 Rock then GB) and no problems but a single 1155 mobo back around the end of 2011. Their mobos were the creme of the crop with the 1150 socket (think they put more time into them after the Rock had some of the very best 1155 mobos - particularly the Extreme 4 😉 ). All are still running that I know of 😉

I'm in pretty much the same boat. I have the Asus Hero viii in the mail now and I've always build Asus but now I'm a little worried about quality. I have never even looked at other boards but I knew there were a few other reliable brands so I started looking at them AFTER I placed my order. Now I'm thinking I should have gone with the G1 Gaming GT or G1 Gaming 7. I'm just nervous about quality because I've never built anything BUT Asus... but here is the thing. The G1 boards have better sound (Creative Labs) which is very important to me... in fact this will be my first build ever without a soundcard. But, and maybe more importantly, the G1 boards each have more than one m.2 slot. One thing I don't really like about the G1's is their look... they look a little teen-agery to me which imo makes them look as if they weren't built well. From what I see here though I think I may be sending the Asus board back.

GB has good mobos, as do the Rock, those two along w/ Asus are the only ones I'll build on. While I liked the look of the previous ROG mobos with the distinctive red and black, MSI started copying the color scheme back on the 1155 mobos and changing the nomenclature from like the GD65 to the "Gaming" whatever, then with 1150, GB jumped on the bandwagon with some red and black mobos...the longer I have the Hero VIII the more murted silver/grey/black and red looks better and better and pairs up nicely with the new GSkill Trident Z sticks
