ASUS VS248 isn't giving me sound

Got it connected via HDMI cable the monitor has speakers after all it does have a volume level on it that I can adjust.

Things I've done:
-Tried the HDMI cable with a TV (works).
-Set the monitor as the default device in the playback devices.
-uninstalled and reinstalled drivers.
-made sure the device isn't muted.

That monitor has no speakers. There is a 3.5mm audio jack on the back and thats what the volume controls are for.
