Hello everyone,

I have a Asus x501a laptop with Pentium B970 CPU which kind of sucks and up until now I thought there is not much I can do about it since it's probably soldered to the motherboard however after I changed my RAM yesterday I noticed that the CPU is not soldered.

So since there are models with the same chassis but with i3/5 CPU I would like to ask if its by any chance possible to upgrade my Pentium B970 to something more civilized

Thanks in advance

(please excuse my silliness if any)

In theory you should be able to upgrade to an i3 or i5 or even certain i7 CPUs but sometimes they simply dont work, whether its insufficient cooling (since each laptop is designed with no real upgrade path its designed for that specific CPU it came with) or its the motherboard not being able to utilize it even though the socket is the correct specification

Having said that I have upgraded CPUs on laptops a few times, they have worked with no problems but a couple times Ive run into some errors (blank screen etc). So in other words, there is only one way to find out (also going from an Pentium to an i3 wont give you that much of a boost).

Heres a few CPUs you can choose from: i3-2370M, i5-2450M or i5-2410M (I didnt list a i7)
