Hi there, sorry if I am posting in the wrong thread, but I am new here. Anyways, I just got myself a ASUS X551MA just for dicking around and all that. I know it's not the fanciest laptop in the world but it'll do just fine for me. My main computer is a custom gaming PC so I don't really need it for gaming. So I'm not really found of Windows 8.1, so I am trying to "upgrade" it to Windows 7. However, I can't seem to find the option to boot from CD mode, along with boot from USB. I can't find those options in the "boot" menu. I have posted a link to a video I put on Youtube, I will show what I mean. But I can't figure out how to boot up my Windows 7 CD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is the link to the video I made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-4bfSvWCac&feature=youtu.be

Thanks for reading,

Travis

First let me say I was also turned off with Windows 8.0 but 8.1 really made some improvements especially for users without a touch screen. On the boot to CD/DVD problem, my laptop came with a BIOS version 400 and I also couldn't find anyway to boot to the CD/DVD. After much frustration and many trials I found that BIOS version 504 put CSM mode back in which now allowed booting to something other than the operating system.
You need to go to the ASUS website "support.asus.com" and view the downloads available. BIOS download Version 504 has CSM capability. You may also need the BIOS flash utility unless your BIOS version has it built in.
After you flash the BIOS disable the security boot menu under Security and launch CSM under the BOOT menu. After saving the changes you may have to reboot the computer so it will detect other bootable sources like CD/DVD or a flash drive. You may also have to reach your BIOS by doing a computer restart while holding the Shift key.
