Has Asus still not added ability to have the chipset fan not run at all, like msi and gigabyte did? I am all over the palce on which mobo to buy still and if I want front usb type c, I have to pretty much get an asus mobo or gigabyte... and gigabyte is rated horribly in reviews and idiotically the x570-f from asus doesn't even have wifi and the ploro carbon by msi doesn't have front type c.

The ability to not run, is only for truly idle. Any time the system is doing (almost) anything at all, the fan is going to spin to some degree.

Are you planning on using an air cooler? Or case fans? If so, the added noise of the chipset fan is negligible.

I wouldn't choose a board based on it's ability to (barely) run passively, under very select circumstances...

case fans, but people say the pitch of the chipset fan stands out.

Also, msi and gigabyte ones do not only have passive under a few circumstances. Testing has shown the chipset fans stay off in almost all circumstances when using silent mode with an msi or gigabyte x570. One person was using pcie SSDs and I believe gaming at the same time and still the chipset fan didn't need to come on. It's the opposite.... they only require the chipset fan in rare situations. And I have seen people complaining a lot about the noise of the chipset fans on other manufacturers' boards, including Asus, but was hoping they addressed it by now.

The ones who have it running often have gone overly cautious, when they don't need to be running. So it's noise for no reason for those who aren't doing much.

By the very nature of having relatively small fans, they will emit a different type of pitch.
What case are you putting it in? If it's anything with any sort of sound dampening, then it's likely a non-issue.

I haven't seen any tests showing the fan not having to run at least periodically - and the slow down and ramp up will likely be more annoying to the ear that it being constant, at a potentially lower RPM.

Not saying no test has been done, you've obviously seen something - but by the very fact the chipset is spec'd to need a fan would suggest you're not likely to see it off more often than on.

It is off way more than on from anything I have read. Everyone who's commented on them said they are almost always off and that the chipset fan was needed for the rare people who would be using multiple pcie 4 ssds and hardcore gaming, etc...

Depending on my mobo choice, I am either keeping my Define C order or getting a r6, so yes sound dampening, but I don't want to cancel it out by having a high pitched fan noise.

There are other roadblocks, as well, though. For instance, the asus I wanted is $299 vs. the msi being $230 after rebates. Then the asus dumbly has no wifi/Bluetooth.

Someone in a review claims in a gigabyte one their gigabyte 1070 ti wouldn't even fit. That is really weird and making me feel like I can't chance gigabyte. plus the tons and tons giving them 1 star reviews.

So really my only choices are the asus and r6 for a TON more money just to get front type c usb or msi and pro carbon for a lot less money and then have only rear usb type c.

Btw, I don't game or edit a ton, so I kind of doubt I need the r6 for any other reasons.

Here is yet another place where the posters are confirming what I said: View: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/cigjm0/x570_chipset_fan_noise_comparison_who_makes_the/ev5gdtq/

Notice the people saying it never comes on for theirs, due to the silent profile, but that it drove them insane before that silent profile was there. Thus why I am getting one that can have it shut totally off like that. Notice it says the fan doesn't come on at all until the temps get to 70+.

That is just one example page. I have seen on other sites as well, everyone says that, nd in videos they mention it, that it is totally off almost all of the time.

Now amazon already shipped my define c, so I'm not getting asus unless I change my midn and return it and geta r6. But if asus can't shut it off, there's no point. I guess I am better off with rear type c usb than spending $150+ extra just to have it in front AND have that chipset fan come on.
