Asus X99 Deluxe error "USB Over Current Status Detected, System Shutdown In 15 Seconds."

i recently transferred the guts of my computer from a Cooler Master Cosmos Case to a Corsair Obsidian 750D. I didn't want to do it because the Corsair case is uglier than Sarah Jessica Parker, but i needed the additional space for cable management. And every other case out there right now is even uglier.

At boot up i get the message "USB Over Current Status Detected, System Shutdown In 15 Seconds" ONLY when i have the case's front USB 3.0 hub plugged in. the USB 2.0 hub doesn't seem to be causing any problems. now my motherboard has 2 USB 3.0 headers. I tried using either one and get the same result.

with the USB 3.0 hub completely unplugged there are no problems. Does this mean that i need to replace my case or can it be a firmware/BIOS issue?

With the case, why didn't you just get the Cosmos II ultra tower?

What happens if you put an unwanted USB device in the front USB 3 ports?

Try your old case 3.0 header and see if the same error occurs.

I am almost certain you have a problem with the case I/O 3.0 port. It may have touching wires in the port itself which can cause this.

the cosmos II is way too big and heavy, and for its size it doesn't have enough room inside. and it doesn't have a window option like the original cosmos did.

my old case didn't have any USB 3.0 hubs. it was the old cosmos case. it's like 5 years old. there aren't any wires or metal objects where they shouldn't be. i took this thing apart and put it back together 2 times already. i'm pretty sure it is the case's USB hub at this point. and according to newegg's reviews, other people had the same issue.

it may appear you have answered your own question. Replace your case. Take this opportunity to buy a case you like, you don't want to look at a case that you don't like.

my worst fears have been realized. it is not the motherboard's fault. it's the case. which means i spent like 3 hours on cable management for no reason.

i did some soul searching and realized that i've had to do like 10 RMAs with Corsair over the last 2 years. literally nothing i bought from them worked out of the box.

i looked at those cases, while they are affordable and functional their appearance is just too busy looking for me. i needed something that looks like the Cosmos but has the functionality of the HAF X. So i placed an order for a Phanteks Enthoo Primo. hopefully that works out better. seems like a good deal since it comes preloaded with like $75 worth of fans.

the one you linked is the Cosmos SE. mine is just Cosmos or Cosmos 1000.
i got the optional side panel window. one reason i don't want the Cosmos II, aside from the horrible use of interior space, is because there is no side panel window option. i also like the plain, simplistic design of the case and that the optical drives are hidden behind the door. the Phantek Primo does the same.

thanks for the advice. i was certain it was the case itself too. but i was hoping that maybe the error was instead due to a BIOS issue or something like that, that way i wouldn't have to take this stupid thing apart and put it back together. again.

no. i don't like the mesh front and the ugly optical drive plugs. and the main reason, above all else, that i'm getting rid of the Cosmos is because there is almost zero room behind the motherboard tray for cable management. the Cosmos series are HUGE cases but the insides were designed by morons. there is just so much dead space where you don't need it and none where you do. what a shame.

if they would have moved the motherboard tray 1 inch closer to the window side and created room for cable management i would never even consider buying another case. i would just get 3, 2 as spares in case i brake something.

Cosmos II has the same problem. tons and tons of dead space but very little where you actually need it. plus they managed to make it even bigger and heavier. i didn't think that was possible.

oh, i already mentioned in a previous post that i placed an order for the Phanteks Enthoo Primo, this thing:

it it's actually quiet a bargain of a case. for $200 you get a super tower made of aluminum and steel, unbelievably good interior design and use of space, AND $80 worth of 140mm fans. they are as good as Noctua's 140mm fans in terms of air movement and noise.

you mean 820? no, i didn't like that one. side panel window too small and too much plastic going on. for a $250 case they should have been able to use aluminum instead of plastic for the exterior.

but i just LOVE the NZXT H440 case. while is does use plastic like the phantom 820, it is actually priced accordingly so that can be forgiven. it has no optical drive bays and good use of interior space. it is probably the only mid tower that can comfortably run 3 way SLI/CF with a pair of large radiators for water cooling without sacrificing cable management. i use that case at work.
