Asus x99-deluxe question

Hi all, I'm building with the x99-deluxe mobo from Asus, the system will have one video card. I see recommendations to use either slot 1 or 3. 1 is a bit close to the fan, so 3 would be the logical choice.

Here's my question: the specs tell me that all the x16 slots are identical. Why would I be recommend to one or the other?

It's probably about bandwidth sharing with other devices.
