I just ordered the ASUS X99-E WS motherboard. It has extra pins and was wondering how that would effect the CPU's ( 5930kVS5960x ) for both gaming and working. Also how they would differ when combined with windows 10 & directx 12 which makes use of CPUs with more cores.

More cores are also supposed to be better for open world games which are becoming more popular. I need help in choosing bettween the 2 for an ultimate overkill PC build.

Since you are going for overkill, the 5960X is your choice. Is it a smart choice? Not really. If you aren't going to use the extra cores, you won't need the the 5960X. The extra pins on that motherboard are for better power delivery and overclocking according to ASUS.
for gaming 4 core
rendering/editing/future proofing six core
plus if ya got the money go for a six core
i mean gaming wont be that great but you will get a little bit more when 6 core optimization for games becomes available

When you say 6 core, you are referring to the 5930K? The 8 core is the 5960X and Battlefield 4 has 6 core compatability.

Thanks : ) still not entirely sure but I think I will need to wait for more info on how windows 10 and directX 12 will effect the 5960X for gaming. I think directX 12 makes more cores better so they don't just sit there and that each core will split the work. It would be better for the cpu as well.
