I've recently bought the Asus X99-s motherboard:
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/X99S/specifications/

Sadly im experiencing an issue with only two of my RAM blocks being detected in either BIOS nor when under SYSTEM information in OS.

My RAM are:
Crucial - Ballistix SP DDR4-2400 QC - 16GB (4x4GB)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148866&cm_re=Crucial_Ballistix_DDR4-2400_-_16GB-_-20-148-866-_-Product
(should equal to those - didn't buy through newegg though)

I've tried to:
- Update BIOS to the latest version
- Enable XMP in BIOS (XMP DDR4-2400 16-16-16-39-1.20V)
- Inserted each RAM block alone / verified that they work.
- Done a memtest run
- Inserted the four RAM in slots as recommended pr. the manual. (in DIMM-A1 + DIMM-B1 + DIMM-D1 + DIMM-C1 = two on the left side and two on the right side)
- EDIT: Also tried resetting CMOS - didnt help with anything
- EDIT: Crucial support confirmed that the RAM should be compatible with the motherboard

The two RAM slots appearing are the ones located in; DIMM-D1 + DIMM-C1
- which equals to two of the slots on the right side.

I know that these RAM worked fine on my old motherboard.

I ran a CPU-Z Validator:
And according to this result 4 inserted RAM slots has been detected???

Any ideas on what I can try and do?

My build in any case it could be relevant:
Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E - Box
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Crucial Ballistix SP DDR4-2400 QC - 16GB
MSI GeForce GTX 970 GAMING - 4GB GDDR5
Samsung 850 PRO SSD - 256GB
Samsung 840 EVO SSD - 250GB
PSU: Corsair TX650W

Tried that, they basically say "If the RAM works fine one by one, then they should also be working regardless the slot, so might be an slot issue".

And I agree, could most likely be a slot issue. I cant seem to get any detection of RAM on the 4 slots on the left side.

BUT but how on earth can the report: http://valid.canardpc.com/gzs39t - detect the RAM????

Hey there, mrsamdk,
if you don't me asking...where did you purchase the ram kit from? If you are yet under warranty perhaps shoot Asus/Newegg a mail and request an RMA detailing this issue? It can be a ram slot issue if the rams are detected when inserted on an individual basis.

Just to be sure, in which applications do you see the ram not being recognized? As a wild shot, perhaps populate teh secondary slots i.e A2, B2, D2, C2 and see what happens?

old motherboard
what did you have prior to the X99-S?

It's from a danish webshop and I do still have warranty - but not knowing whether its the RAM or the motherboard makes it a bit difficult for me to send back.

what did you have prior to the X99-S?
MSI X99 Gaming 7 motherboard

I think what Tradesman1 was trying to also ask was in which applications do you see that half your memory is available? Since the way it looks, to me though, is that the slots on your mobo may be faulty provided you have done an extensive test via memtest ~10 passes. Have you tried placing the rams on the alternate slots(won't be working but its a wild shot).

I know the folks at Asus are really swell guys as they send out a mobo before you send your's out. Though I would open a support ticket with Asus just to keep them in the loop and also see if the seller(in Netherlands) will cause an issue for you, should you go for a RMA with the seller.

- I see this on the startup screen when booting up
- I see this when entering BIOS
- I see this under SYSTEM information in windows

Should I be looking elsewhere? Else not sure how to describe this :)

Weird memory results this morning!
Ok, so I boot up the computer this morning and it says 16GB on boot screen and in BIOS! This is the first time I see this. However in windows under SYSTEM infomation its back to 8GB??

The setup with the slots used are not the recommended setup pr. the manual - been running like this a few days. Still the right half of the slots only though, im still yet to get any results putting anything in the left half of the RAM slots.

Great to hear back from you :)

I see your screenshot and that you've populated all the slots on the right hand side of the mobo. So I take it that you tried with all the left hand slots populated?

The X99 platform is a quad channel platform so you will need to populate the slots in the alphabetical order of A, B, C, D to achieve optimal performance. There was the suggestion of running the above alphabetical order in their secondary positions i.e A2, B2, C2, D2 but I think you've also tried that layout...?

It'd be too early to say but I'm speculating that the left hand slots may be defective from the factory. As a precautionary measure have you contacted your seller and/or Asus regarding the issue? In case you have to RMA you may need to keep both or one of them in the information loop regarding the issue you've faced so far since you are well within the warranty period.

* Again, ram should check out as working if they go through memtest86 with 10 passes no errors/failures or perhaps keep it on for 24hrs.

I got 16 GB DDR4(3000) kit (4 sticks) 1.35v stock. All detected
After enabling XMP only 3 sticks detected in bios and windows. But CPU-Z detected all 4 sticks.
I raised ram voltage by 0.01. from 1.35v. with 1.38 all detected. but not on every boot. So i ended up with 1.41v ram voltage.
I also raised the cpu system agent voltage from 0.85 to 1.0.
By adding this, Gave me much better and responsive system

Those voltages are high for 2400MHz Frequencies and the product page does specify the ability of the kit to run on 1.20v.

Voltages of 1.25 and above are meant for frequencies above 2400MHz. Further reading may be had here with regards to operating voltages:

and a review of a similar kit though not the exact match

OP,
have you made any breakthrough?

I know this is a 1+ year later - but the answer to the last comment here is: NO breakthrough 🙁

What happened was that I went on with running two blocks detected for a couple of months and got tired of it so I decided to buy a "new" motherboard: Asus x99 Deluxe - from a new retailer + new RAM: HyberX Predator

Surprise surprise, still the same issue - only two blocks gets detected. So basically i've been running with 2 x 8GB sticks out of 4 for over a year now.

Got tired of this again and back looking for a solution googling around, but still no luck finding any clear solution on anything.
So if anyone have ANY suggestions, do shout out!

- ps. I just updated to the latest BIOS - no change
- ps. In BIOS changing to any of the XMP profiles will result in "overclocking failed" error on boot
. ps. CPU-Z still shows ALL RAM - Windows system + BIOS doesn't

I've got the same problem here with Asus x99 WS/IPMI and HyperX (Model checked on MB-Compatibility-List)...installed 4 Slots..only one is detected...and surprise...CPUZ finds all of them!!! What the....???

Any updates on this?

I've not come closer to anything - almost 2 years going strong with this issue 🙁

Let me know if you find a solution Lars! I will try and see if I can get something out of Asus online support yet again again

I've got the same issue I just replaced my x99 strix board with the rog edition 10 thinking it would solve my problem but still only 2 out of 4 sticks being detected. Its stressing me out cause im now wondering if it's my cpu thats the issue

I've also had this issue for about a year now. I have an X99 MSI Godlike Motherboard and it only detects my RAM on the right side of my CPU (i-7 5820K)... I've tried literally everything and Im about to send back my MOBO to see if that works.

I too have this issue. I have an Asus X99-A II and I had video card issues. I rma the video card. While troubleshooting I would randomly lose one or two memory sticks in HWMonitor, but windows would always say 32GB installed.

Today, while waiting for RMA I noticed windows reported I had only 16GB ram (I have 64GB ram)

I reseat RAM and still have 16GB RAM. I move the RAM to the second set of slots (A2, B2, C2, D2) and doesn't poist at MB LED stuck on 53.

I move RAM to the primary slots and same 16GB. I then go into the BIOS and check memory timings and it show channel A,B,C,D. ALL of C and D are set to zero like nothing in them.

Any clues what I can try to figure out if it's RAM, CPU, or MB?

I'm at the same problem Asus x99-s ram detect problem. Sometimes I get all sometimes I don't. Have tried everything in the books except new cpu. Ordered 6850k have 5930k now. Everything is pointing to cpu, have even sent my board in for checkup and they tried new mem and cpu. They got 0 faults. They used 6800k and fury 2133 mem. All 4 slots found and worked single or duel or quad. So I'm testing 6850k with 2x fury when my cpu arrives. I will try to remember to give you guys an update. Ps tested 2 other brands of mem with no luck

Let me know how things turn out.

I'm leaning towards the CPU as well. I mean the memory controller is on the CPU. The memory channels are just a pass-thru kind of thing and do very little to my understanding.

It did not go so well. Same problem, yesterday I tested to remove everything except what I needed for an post boot. The same problem persists so I'm leaning towards buying a new mobo. It's extremely frustrating 🙁

Mine is solved now. Bought a new mobo asus extreme 10 edit works like a charm now. The company who tested my mb should be killed, I do not know what kind of stupid test they did or if they even did anything.. Oh, well I finally found the solution, and I've read on a lot of different sites about ram problems on the 99 boards in general, seems common.
