Asus XC550CA Clean Install of Win8.1

My Notebook came with Win8 pre-installed. Without waiting to do a backup, I immediately updated it to 8.1. That altered the location of the recovery partition, so I can't now reset the system. Asus want me to send it back to restore the original system, but I would like to buy a new full version and install it myself. Will there be any issues with keys? Or will the new disk be able to overwrite the existing key in the BIOS. Help would be appreciated.

I'd contact the manufacturer and ask for a recovery disc.

This is an Asus x550CA notebook. The manufacturer does not supply recovery disks: they want me to return the notebook to the Service Centre to have the image restored. The turn-round is 14 days and the minimum charge is £50. I can buy a full 8.1 disk for £70 and have no delay.. The only issue is to make sure that the system will accept the new license key, since Win8 and Win 8.1 have different key formats.
