I'm building a new rig and the mobo is going to be Asus Z170 pro gaming.

Now, I'm planning to use the sound card from my previous system - Asus Xonar DG 5.1 but PC Part Picker says that my sound card isn't compatible with the mobo.

Apparently, the sound card is PCI channel and mobo has all PCIe ports?

I would really like to use my sound card as I think the inbuilt SupremeFX is quite inferior to the Xonar DG?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Solution
Not really worth it tbh.

Most GPUs output 7.1 out HDMI in every format their is.
Most mobos have toslink built in.
The only benefit you may see would come from plugging headphones or stereo speakers in.

Anyway, to answer your problem.
The motherboard is incompatible.
Find a different mobo with a PCI slot. they still exist, but only in expensive ATX form factors where there is space.
If the cost difference is too high, by a new sound card.

Thank you for your swift response.

Yes, I've a home theater that I connect with my sound card (used for music and gaming mostly.) This is disappointing though if a mobo of this price range (Asus z170 pro gaming) can't have an additional PCI card. Thanks!

As you stated your mobo doesn't support your card, so you can either use the onboard audio or look into buying a new audio card.

While the Xonar DG is PCI only, there is the Xonar DGX that's PCIe, currently $42.19 on newegg.
