ASUS Xonar Essence STX with Win7 x64bit

Hello everyone,

I recently reformatted from Win 7 x32bit and installed x64bit due to a ram upgrade. As soon as i installed the driver for the sound card via ASUS website, the sound has not been the same quality as it was when i was running 32bit windows. When i listen to music, the singers voice is lowered and overall the sound is a bit distorted and low quality.

I re-installed the driver a few times to no avail.

I have a GTX 770 and i was reading the HD audio from that does not affect the sound card.

the hd audio is on your motherboard, not your gpu btw.

but, make sure you completely uninstall the old driver (use driversweep)

Yeah, i disabled the onboard audio from BIOS as well. But i was wondering if theres any conflict between the GPU's audio and my sound card. other forums said there arent any. And there were zero issues running both gtx770 and the asus card on my x32bit

But ill fully uninstall it, and update later tonight.

The gpu only supports the audio of what it is connected to (so only the audio coming out of your monitor is run by the gpu) So you should probably disable that when running your headphones or any other device than your monitor as your sound output.

I will do that as soon as i get home. im just confused because i did not disable anything from the gtx770 when i had my old windows. But maybe things change in x64bit....

I just tried uninstalling and re-installing the asus driver, and uninstalling the GTX audio component and Im still having the same issue.

Ok this is very very strange, but if i slightly unplug my headphone from the headphone jack on the sound card, the audio is crisp and clear...???

delete every driver or file relating to the card, then reinstall the newest driver for it for 64bit win 7. having it slightly unplugged is not giving you the full audio and is wrong in every other sense

I switched the one I had plugged in the headphone component and it works fully. I guess it was a defective headphone adapter...
