I'm planning on upgrading my current pc. I now have a i5 3300 and 12gb of ram in an asrock h61 mobo. I'm planning on buying the i5 7400 and the asus z-170m-e d3. The motherboard supports ddr3 but I've heard new intel cpu only support ddr4. Will I be able to use my ram without buying ddr4? I've got a 8gb kingston fury which is blue on the outside and a 4gb kingston that's generic. I also got a 5770 1gb and 2 hdd + 1 ssd (all sata)
Please, anyone let me know if I'd ran into any issue or if I need ddr4 and another mobo. I was thinking a gigabyte ga-b250m-dsh.
Thanks in advance to anyone that replies.

Solution
No, you need new DDR4 RAM.
For your i5 7400, I would go with the B250 choice you have listed.

Yes, the B250 will support the 1050Ti.

No, not many support DDR3 and if they support DDR3, it is usually a very HIGH Mhz RAM that is not actually DDR3 and something else. Better stick to DDR4.

What is your budget? Maybe other options are there.

Solution
Okay, i'll try to sell these 12gb i have, I didn't want to sell these used and buy new ones. I don't really have a fixed budget but i'd like to keep as more money as possible after withouth any compromise to my system.

Then this would be a more up to date upgrade, and will be really good for gaming:

I would check your PSU if I were you, to make sure it is of good quality. What is your PSU?

I'm not from the states so price vary a lot.
A z370 + 8400 combo is worth a lot here because they are new. I could get a 7600k for the price of the 8400 + z170 for half of the z370 mobo.

That is not a bad option, 7600k is still decent. But you will need to to buy a CPU cooler for it as it does not come with one.

Where are you from? UK? I can search for a list in your location if you like.

the i5 8400 is a lot better than a 7600k

you also are not buying into a dead platform
