Hi, thank you in advance for any helpful replies.

A friend and I just built a new PC, consisting of the following.

ASUS Z170-A motherboard (unknown BIOS revision)
i7-7700K LGA1151 4.2Ghz CPU
Corsair H55 water cooler
16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000Mhz 2x8
250G Samsung SSD 850 Evo
EVGA 750 G2 power supply
EVGA GTX 1070 FTW

So we put it together last night and it all booted up fine hardware wise, mostly, no error beeps on the motherboard, all fans working properly. What we're getting is no post, but my monitor is just a black screen, like it's in sleep. I've tried the graphics cards HDMI ports, and the motherboards HDMI, DVI, and VGA, all with no post and black screen. Since the CPU is fairly new, we're assuming it needs the latest BIOS version which on the ASUS support site says this CPU is only supported with version 3007. I doubt the motherboard has the latest version, so there lies the problem. We need to update the BIOS.

This motherboard has a Flashback header (12-1 pin FLBK_HEADER) on the motherboard, and I'm going to quote the description, "This connector is for the USB BIOS Flashback card that allows you to easily update the BIOS without entering the existing BIOS or operating system." Noted at the bottom of this description I will also quote, "The USB BIOS Flashback card is purchased separately.". We've searched the internet thoroughly and found that this USB BIOS Flashback card does not exist. While other motherboards have a built in button on the back for USB flashback, this motherboard does not. How do I update the BIOS without a USB Flashback card?

Our only other option is the return the CPU for one that has been supported longer, and we'd obviously like to avoid returning the CPU if possible. We're not super tech savvy so we're not sure if we're overlooking any other options. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Option 1:

Option 2: Buy a cheap $40 Skylake Celeron CPU, boot and update the BIOS with that CPU, then put your 7700k back in. The Celeron can either be sold or just left as a backup in case you may need it in the future.

Solution

Thanks for the reply. This would have been a great solution but my friend lost patience and bought the CPU model under the one we have, and he's going to sell the 7700K. Definitely would have tried the $40 Celeron route if we could have been more patient. Thanks again.
