I custom built a computer the other day, but I cannot connect my new Corsair Strafe keyboard, and it will not connect to the Internet through the ethernet cable either. The I have loaded windows 7 (x64 bit) off an ssd that I had lying around, and that seemed to work well, so I booted up, but no internet. I updated the bios through a USB drive I had, and the update installed successfully, but still no internet. Then, I downloaded the Ethernet drivers to a flash drive (from my laptop), but once I was in windows, I could not load any of my USB devices. My basic keyboard and mouse worked, but when I plugged in my Corsair Strafe, only the side lights came on and it was unresponsive. I tried this with the other drivers too, including usb and pci. Drivers will not update this way, and when I try to auto update the drivers through windows, that always fails.

I have checked my Strafe on other computers, and it works.

When I look at the Manage devices, under control panel, Ethernet controller, PCI memory controller, PCI simple communications controller, SM bus controller, and USB controller (which is listed twice) all have a yellow triangle next to them, and it says that there are no drivers installed for them. It gives me the option to look for the online (which i obviously CANNOT to because i have no internet) or load them from my computer or drives, which i cannot access. I am temped to return the motherboard (that's where all this stuff is right?) but that would take a while, and I would like to fix it myself if at all possible.

My build is:
intel i5 6500
asus z170-e
msi geforce 960
evga 500w psu
samsung 850 evo 250gb ssd
toshiba 1 tb hard drive

First build, and this one is a real pain in the a$$. Have been troubleshooting for most of the past day and yesterday evening. If you need any additional information, please ask. Thanks for the help.

Because the Z170 chipset will not support the Enhanced Host Controller (EHCI) mode so that the USB ports will not work when you use the win7. More info you can check the manual page 2-66, Win7 and USB3.0 driver for 100 series.

You should use the asus support DVD to install the USB3.0 driver first, even other drivers on that DVD. Or install the USB drive first, then go to asus site to get the newer drivers, then you can use the USB drive to install other newer version drivers.

Unfortunately, the only DVD drive i have is external... and connects through USB. I uninstalled windows 7, and have been running Ubuntu until i can resolve this problem. Thanks for the help.

I tried that, but when I try to install, I get the error "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. I am using a USB drive to install. I have tried pressing cancel and putting the drive in different ports, but I get the same error.
