I might be being an idiot but my new pc with Asus Z170 gaming pro motherboard supports 7.1 sound ( I have old analog creative 7.1 speakers). However athough all the connections are normal, the side speakers look like they need spdif connector? Why on earth would they do that? who has 7 speaker set where two speakers have totally different connections? Am I missing something? Is there a way I can connect my normal analog side speakers?
Thanks

I have found the solution: when you plug the side speaker jack in the line in (blue) port, the realtek hd audio manager asks to you if you have connected a line in or a side speaker out. I have selected side speaker out, set configuration to 7.1 and it worked!
I have the same problem with the Razer Tiamat 7.1 headset, because it has a standard 3,5mm jack (grey) for the side speakers.
Where I am supposed to plug this jack??
(looking at the photos of the audio connectors, I thought that the connector was a sort of "hybrid 3,5mm jack/optical connector", but I was wrong)
