ASUS Z170 motherboard in standby mode, won't POST

I just started my first build tonight after acquiring all of the pieces and have done research. I have put everything together outside of the motherboard to see if it works, but the only thing that happens is a green light in the center comes on, my 1080 has two white lights and a series of 3 lights on the bottom left do a steady pulse. I have checked all of the cables to see if they're connected firmly, and they are. I tried starting the system with a single stick of RAM, and the same exact thing happens, even if I don't boot it with any RAM at all it still does the same thing. I've spent the last hour watching "How to" guides on YouTube to see if maybe I missed something, and I haven't yet. I am open to any advice you guys can give me.

Specs? You might be using a kaby lake CPU which does not work with z170 bios
