Question Asus Z170 pro gaming - will fan work without CPU?

Hi Guys!

I'd like to ask about Asus Z170 pro gaming. My PC suddenly stopped working. I've checked power source and it's ok. Now, there is a question if the issue is with CPU or motherboard.
Sadly, no one around has components to replace and check where is the problem.
So, I'd like to ask if there is any chance that Z170 will start e.g. fans without CPU installed? The LED lights are on as usual.
On another hand, guys from the service keep telling me that my CPU (i7 6700k) is a tanky one and there is almost no chance that it burned.
