Hi everyone,
First time builder here, I am getting the DRAM LED issue with my Asus Z170A, right now I have nothing hooked up except the motherboard, CPU and RAM.
Relevant specs:
Motherboard: ASUS Z170A
Processor: Intel i7-6700K
RAM: Crucial Ballistics 8 GB 2400 (2x4gb)
PSU: CORSAIR CX series CX600M 600W ATX12V

I have searched for similar issues and read through potential solutions to no avail, including this thread.

Right now I have the motherboard outside the case with both power cables connected. Checked the processor to verify it was seated correctly and unplugged everything else other than the case power button switch.

No matter if I have 1, 2 or no RAM sticks inserted the red light still comes on and no beeps at all. Pressing the MemOK button makes the DRAM LED flash for about 30 seconds to a minute then go back to red.

I'm thinking that the whole motherboard is defective at this point, I can't imagine two new RAM sticks would be bad and even still would the light come on with no RAM inserted?
Help would be appreciated, done as much digging as I could to no avail.

I have tried all memory slots (going with single RAM stick as no real point in trying 2 till I can get one working. I removed the cooler entirely but still no dice. I think the mobo is bad at this point since I'm not even getting POST beeps. Going to talk to Newegg tomorrow to try to get a new one.

Can you post a picture of the CPU socket?
