asus z170a not posting

my friend has a z170a that a friend gave him and we dont know the history behind the board but my friend wanted to sli so i pulled everything out of his rig and threw it into the z170 board and for what ever reason i cannot get the board to post and all the lights show it in standby mode but we still get nothing on the screen. ive tried hooking up a bios speaker but got no beeping even when i pulled the ram out and idk whats wrong with the board and i think its because the board is bricked but the worst part is i dont have a cd for the board so thats out of the question and of course asus didnt put the bios roll back on that specific board so now were kind of in a tight spot any suggestions

check that the cmos jumpers on right. if the bios is locked up put the newest bios on a usb stick. google ami/award bios recovery and rename the bios but leave the new bios file as is as a copy.. pull the mb use onboard video and one ram stick see if there any posting. check on the mb user guild the cpu you have will post with the mb bios and is on there support list.

tried both 1 ram stick and onboard video and im still getting nothing and the issue might be that there is no jumper on the board so ill probably look for one on a motherboard i dont care about and google where to put them

make sure the monitor works by trying it on another pc - ie does not have a broken pin

ditto to smorizio. motherboards are pretty resilient. i would guess the board is ok and you should check all jumpers and hookups and power supply and fans and such.

AS ALWAYS: before you switch things around: the power supply is off, power cord is unplugged. never switch things around if they are powered. they are powered unless it is completely un-plugged. even if you "mess up" there's a good chance it still works - but may require waiting a few minutes unplugged, several reboots (yes - this makes a difference).

also: you may have a configuration reset jumper. if it's there: you probably need to use it, is my experience.

did you put the board back into the other case to see if it still works in the other case?

tried 2 different monitors using different hdmi cables and nothing

btw: if your video is set in bios for video card and you "switch cases" don't expect the on-board video to magically know your now plugging into the onboard video just because the video card isn't there. put it back in the other case (with the other video card) and you should have video. go into bios and select on-board video.

onboard video nor video card is working i tried with 3 different gpus the asus strix 980ti the evga 980ti sc and the 980ti founders edition and nothing from all 3 cards
