Asus z270e bios update questions

Hi all,

I built my first PC this weekend and went through updating various drivers from the asus website after installing windows. As part of this I updated the BIOS by accident (I didn't realise that this can be risky until after I ran the update). There was only one bios update file showing under the Windows 10 64bit section on the Asus website page for drivers (Bios 0701 - improved stability).

The Bios update seemed to run ok although the PC rebooted a couple of times. When the eventually PC restarted properly it showed an American Megatrends screen asking me to press F1 to enter setup and recover BIOS setting. It also said to set SATA configuration to RAID mode.

I set my hard drives to AHCI originally and didn't want to change to RAID so just entered the BIOS and checked the settings were still on AHCI. After all this my PC seems to be booting up as normal and working fine.

My questions are:

Is Bios 0701 the latest bios for the z270e and would this have been the original bios I had anyway given the motherboard is very new (only one update showing on Asus site which is the one I downloaded)?

Why did the American Megatrends screen ask me to set SATA to RAID mode? Is this just a reminder in case I had RAID mode set previously?

Is there anything else I should/can check to ensure I haven't damaged anything? Or is everything all ok given my system is booting up without problem?

Are there any dangers to updating the BIOS except for if you lose power mid-way through?

Next time I'm doing something new I'll check google first!

No I alwyas update BIOS with a new board. After that it gets a bit more risky if you have an OS etc. You will be perfectly fine.

Have no idea why it prompted you to change to RAID mode but if your PC is booting then I wouldn't worry. That's all that matters. If it was RAID and you have an AHCI installation it wouldnt boot.

The new BIOS will play better with the latest drivers anyway, so just install all those from the motherboard website and you should be set.

I found this thread where the top post contains a message which was almost identical to mine (including the reference to RAID) - does this shed any light on it?

I've seen some posts about resetting CMOS jumper in this type of discussion. Do you know what this is - assume I don't need to bother with it?

It says "when RAID mode was set" so it's kinf of a warning rather than an error by the looks of it. Do you still get it on boot? I would guess it was a one-time message.

No it just boots normally now which is why I'm not too worried. I guess the megatrends screen just pops up when the bios has been reset although don't remember seeing it the first time around.

Do you have an asus motherboard too?

No not at the moment, but have had in the past and have worked with them. They make awesome boards. All brands give a message after a BIOS update though. Its pretty standard, I really wouldnt worry.

First time around it wouldnt as it was on factory stock BIOS version. Just relax and enjoy tuning your system

I am just curious when you went to update the bios were you able to do this through Windows, or did you need to update via a storage device in the device? I am having a weird issue with my Z270E.... I can not update the bios from Windows without getting stuck in a state where my post lights flash yellow and red until a full power off... Any ideas?
