So im looking at this motherboard, and on this page is a labelled picture (https://www.asus.com/uk/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-STRIX-Z270E-GAMING/). So the front panel connector looks like a usb port which obviously only connects to one of the usb slots on the front.

My question is, in order to connect both do i need a usb 3.0 cable splitter? because when i look these up it returns a 20 pin connector.

I know this is long winded so i'll really appreciate any answers, thanks guys

The USB3.0 Header (or sometimes called USB3.1 Gen1 Header) of the Asus Z270E, labelled as "USB3_34" as shown below, can support up to two USB3.0 ports.

If you have a case that has...

If you have a case that has two USB3.0 front panel ports, you do not need to buy a splitter as it will come with a cable that already splits and looks like this:

This 20-pin female connector will go to the Z270E's USB3_34 header. Notice the cable splits into two, one for the first USB3.0 front panel port, and one for the second USB3.0 front panel port.

Thank you for the quick reply :) okay so thats sorted, however, i am buying the case from Novatech so can i assume that all the required cables to connect to the motherboard will come with it?

You're welcome.

It depends on what specific case you are getting. If the case only has 2x USB2.0 front panel ports, the cable would be different (a 9-pin female connector that plugs in the "USB910", "USB1112", or "USB1314" header -- since the Z270E has three USB2.0 headers) that also splits into two (for each USB2.0 ports).

If the case only has 2x USB3.0 front panel ports, then, it should come with the 20-pin female connector described in my first reply above.

If the case has 2x USB2.0 and 2x USB3.0 ports, then, it should all have such cables connected in the case + the other front panel cables such as the HD Audio (plugs into the Z270E's "AAFP" header) and the smaller 1-pin/2-pin cables for the Power, Reset, and LED indicators (plugs into the Z270E's "PANEL" header):
