Let me start off by saying this is my first build (ASUS z87-a, intel i5 4670k, 1TB tobisha HDD, Corsair CX750M, Crucial Ballisitx 8gb ddr3-1600, and a thermaltake v3 case). I wanted to build something of my own and have a sense of pride that comes with it.

My computer was running fine for a few days since after I installed all the drivers. I was wanting to OC my cpu so I used ASUS' AI Suite III and let it run the fast OC mode. I went from 3.4ghz to 4.3. Then the issues started. I'd get the BSOD randomly, sometimes several hours after the reboot. Now my computer has a blank screen and a RED CPU LED light on. I foolishy updated the bios and got the BSOD during the update. I'd really appreciate any help.

Solution
Try clearing the cmos with the power off. Also try putting the mb driver cd in the cd rom drive tray. See if themb will post from cd or USB. If not time to rma..replace themb.
With the mb Turned off but on stand by power does the system state button (one used in the owners guild to quickly enter the bios screen) does that do anything?? If it does not on another pc download the newest bios file and run the renamer program. With the bios file renamed for the bios for your mb copy the files into the root of a fat 32 formatted USB stick. Put the usbstick into a USB 2.x port and turn on the mb. It may take 10min or so but if the back up bios is working you may be able to recover your mb.

Yeah the only light I have with the board off, but power supplied is a green LED that is larger than all the others and near the CMOS reset posts. I do have a USB reformatted to FAT32 with the new bios on it renamed. Is there a special USB port I should use?

I don't think I mentioned that the update to bios was performed using ASUS' EZ UPDATE. Therefore it was updated in windows.

I took back my MOBO to the retail store since everything happened within 15 days. Swapped in the new MOBO and everything is fine. I really appreciate your help. Im typing this on my new desktop. Thanks.

It's interesting I just went though the same thing with my z87-a and crucial balistic tactical 8gb x 2 1.35voly sticks. Red solid cpu light on cold boot. I was on bios version 1405. I too had to do an exchange for a new board and cpu at the store

Did you get the red cpu light before updating the bios or after? What bios version are you on now and what version was the updated one?

I'm wondering if its an issue with the memory we have and certain z87-a bios versions like 1405.

I have the same problem since a few minutes. MB and CPU were running both well. Then I updated the BIOS to 1405. It was successfully done, however, now no more boot possible. The CPU POST LED is red immediately after switching power on.
Does anybody have an idea whether it is an issue with the BIOS version?
Can I flash back to a previous version, e.g. 1205?

try clearing your cmos with the jumper and power off. put the bios file and a renamed bios fill on fat32 usb stick if the mb post..or trys to recover you may be able to reflash it. did you flash the bios from inside windows or from the bios updater inside the bios?? windows bios updaters are known to brick mb.

Does it boot if you press and hold power to force power off? Get an overclocked failed message? You running a z87-a with what kind of ram? Please post specs.

I just got a replacement z87-a board and cpu and the new one came with bios 809. Got the red cpu led light last night too! But am able I work around the issue by pulling plug booting again. This seems to happen after the computer has been powered off for about 5 hours or more and is not consistent.

Reason I ask for your memory type is I'm wondering if the intel imc locks up trying to establish timings on certain ram.

For the record I have crucial balistic tactical low profile ddr3l. 2x8gb sticks at 1.35volt

I'm now trying to run I xmp profile 2 to force them to run at 1.5volts. Dunno if this will help or not. Time will tell.

Same exact problem here, had once the overclocking failed message!
the issue is present on 2 different Computer with same Mainboard.
