ASUS Z87-EXPERT, PCIe modes

Hi guys,

I would like to ask if the Creative X-Fi Titanium sound card that I installed in the PCIe X16_3 slot will cause the PCIe X16_1 slot (in which the GPU is installed) to run in X8 mode.

I would also like to ask if there is anything I have to do in order to get the audio card working in the PCIe x1_4 slot. If I install the card in this slot it won't work. Strangely enough, if I put it in PCIe x1_1 slot it works just fine. This slot is however very close to my GPU and CPU fan and I don't want to leave it there so I installed it in another PCIe x16 as stated above. No other expansion slots are taken (just GPU and Audio card).

Hi,

placing any card in PCIE16_3 will cause PCIE16_1 to run in 8X, you are correct.

I will find out about PCIeX1_4. I am wondering if UEFI has an option to switch between that slot and others but don't have the board here in front of me so can't confirm.

Thanks for your effort. Will appreciate your update on the PCIeX1_4 as I was not able to find anything on this in UEFI.

Go into UEFI and set Thunderbolt bandwidth from the default x4 to x2 mode to use PCIE1_4. PCIE1_4 shares bandwidth with the Thunderbolt interface.
