ASUS Z87C No POST, No Video Output, No Beep Codes.

I just finished a build using the Asus z87C motherboard, also have an Intel i5-4460 CPU, and a Corsair CX600M power supply, Samsung EVO SSD.

The CPU LED shows a red light and the stand by LED lights up green. The CPU fan still runs as well as the fan on the case.

Someone please help.
 
I have tried using two different sticks of RAM all in different ram slots, the speaker is also plugged in and the CPU power is plugged in as well. Also no bent pins on the motherboard. Any other suggestions?
 
sounds like either a bad motherboard or power supply. Do you have an old power supply you can test on this build? Do you have an old board you can test this power supply on?

Try booting without a cpu and/or without any ram. In an effort to get a beep code. If none, i would venture to say the board is bad. You may consider exchanging it if there is a store near by or online.
 


I thought the original problem was a bad motherboard so I sent it back and received a brand new one so it can't be the motherboard. I figured that a 600W power supply would be plenty to run the ASUS z87 motherboard, but it almost seems like not enough power is getting to the CPU 8 Pin connector. Do you think possibly my battery is just bad or do you think I need a more powerful battery?
 


No, unfortunately all of the computers in my office are old enough that all of them use a 4 pin connector on the board where my PSU uses an 8 pin to connect to the CPU power. and in my previous reply i didn't mean to say battery, i meant PSU. Sorry for the confusion.
 
oh ok. Yes it is defiantly possible the PSU is bad. Minus a multimeter, you can't really test it. Your best bet is to buy a new one, online if you don't mind waiting for it.

You can visit a micro center if one is near by. Even Staples sells older/crappy power supplies. You could maybe go there, buy one to test it, if the computer POSTS, return the to staples and buy a good one online (or at micro center)

So, FANs are working = not so bad.
CPU can work from 4 pins.
Check if battery have 3V, check if bios jumper is normal.
Start mobo with cpu and speaker only. Wait for beeps. If no beeps - next step is bios (it can be old). Try to get older CPU and start mobo - if it will start - update bios. If still no start- mobo can be bad or PSU is defective.
 


I have started the just board and cpu and speaker, still no beeps. I have tried it with a different CPU and the CPU LED still glows red. I don't believe that it is a Motherboard problem because the chances of getting two faulty ones back to back is insanely slim. The power LED on the front of the case doesn't work either, leading me to believe that the motherboard isn't receiving as much power as is necessary from the PSU.

I have also tried the jumper in multiple locations and that doesn't change anything at all. I am starting to believe that it is a deffective/not enough wattage PSU. However, I definitely thought that the 600W would be plenty, but I think I am going to pick up a 800-900W and see if that will make the computer POST.

Also, I know that I have a 4th generation Intel CPU and I do, in fact, need to update the BIOS before I can use the mobo and the cpu together, however with the computer not POSTing and there is no video output to the monitor (I've tried VGA, DVI, and HDMI) therefore, there is no way for me to get into the BIOS to run that update.
 


I have tried the case jumper in position 1-2, 2-3, and also open (and i turned it around to make sure that it wasn't backwards, just in case). So it isn't posting in normal, configuration, nor recovery mode. It is really starting to get on my nerves. I hope that the PSU is the issue and it's not a multitude of things, because I would really like to not send back all of these parts individually. Haha.
 




I know exactly what the problem and solution is.
Problem: Your cpu is the one of the later 4th gen HD chips.

Solution: You need to update the bios on the board before it will accept the cpu. A bit of a catch-22 I know, but that was what I had to do with the same hardware + 8gb hyper-x 1600 DDR3.

You'll need to borrow an older gen 1150 cpu somewhere to let you flash the bios. I was lucky that my son had a pre-nextgen i7 Haswell and it did the trick nicely (although he wasn't chuffed when he realised mine was more up to date than his.)

I can say with almost certainty it's not memory or psu.

The psu is a modular corsair unit and although mines is the cx750m I must admit it's been the most reliable psu I've ever bought. I see no reason why your power unit is playing up either. My son has the cx600 and is as good as mine any day and he's running more kit than me. It is possible you have a bad rail but I find that highly improbable on a corsair,

The motherboard is compatible with just about any DDR3 you can throw at it so you can rule out memory.

The board is showing a constant red cpu LED because it doesn't know how to handle the 4th gen i5-4460 cpu. A bios flash will put that to rights. The same rule will apply across the entire Asus motherboard series of this generation.
 
Any update please? I want to know if you solved the problem and what was it. I got gigabyte z87-ud3 and i5-4690k but it's also no boot, no beep, no video and no debug code. bios_led shows orange and that's it. I have re-seated the cpu, reconnecting cables, just cpu, fan. still nothing. psu is new and good quality supposed to be. gigabyte site says cpu supported since F9 update. so I assume it is not supported. but would it shows completely nothing?
