Asus Z97-A 3.1 Microphone not working

So about a year ago I built a pc with the Asus Z97-A 3.1 motherboard in it. I used to use an old clip on mic to talk with friends, but that stopped working a while ago. I just bought a headset that I really enjoy with 3.5mm audio and microphone cables, but the microphone will not work. I have plugged directly into the motherboard, and from the front of my case. I know all of the case headers are plugged in correctly, and I know that it is not the fault of the headphones (I've tried about 5 different microphones and none of them work with the computer). I was wondering if any one has come across this issue or found a fix for it yet. I checked the drivers on Asus's website, but i haven't found any that suit my need. I can tell you when I plugged in my Blu-Yeti microphone for the first time and Windows did it's thing to make it work by installing drivers and what not.......somehow the microphone ended up being set as the speakers, or something very similar to that.
And because of that, the microphone didn't work until i went in and changed the settings.
I'm not sure if this will work for you but i have Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

On the Taskbar, find the Volume icon and right click on it. select Playback devices.
You'll now have a new window opened titled Sound.

I think it was here that I had to make the change as the Blu-Yeti mic was listed as my Speakers, and I had speakers connected and working before the microphone decided to "take over" !!!
I think I went into the recording tab and made my Blu-Yeti the default microphone, and then went into the Playback tab and listed my Logitech speakers as the default speakers for my system.

And if you look in my signature, you'll see I have the same Asus motherboard.

It's been working fine since then....... I hope this help.
