Hi all,

I am having a strange problem with my pc; the system boots up normally when I switch off and on the PSU, and then when I shutdown Windows 7, I can boot within 2, 3, 4 hours without any issues. The problem ONLY occurs on the next day, when I try boot the system while the PSU switch is on, I get no post boot, just the fans work but everything else is non-active. I tried to replace the ram, removed the vga card, reset the CMOS and upgrade the firmware. None seem to point out to the source of the problem with the next day no post boot. The system only boots up normally when I manually switch of the PSU from behind.

My PSU is non-modular Thermaltake Smart 750W, and the motherboard is Asus Z97-E

I appreciate any help on this strange issue.

I tried different PSU with Thermaltake 730W. Same problem, the system boots normally for every 1-3 hours. But after 5 hours it stops booting which is strange and I get no post boot no beep, just the cpu fan function the other two fans that are connected to the motherboard do not operate.

What does cause the motherboard for not post boot after 5 hours is a mysterious issue.
I am guessing the new built-in ESD protection feature on the motherboard which is causing no post-boot after 5 hours.

Thanks

I have this same board, and I'm having the exact same problem. I've also found that power cycling the PSU allows me to boot normally after that extended period of being off. I'm thinking of RMAing the board for a replacement of maybe a z97-A, or maybe just a brand new z97-e(since I got the one that I have now as an open box from newegg)

I have the same problem with my z97-e, except that the case fan as well as the cpu fan run, but there is no post beep. I updated to the latest BIOS but that did not improve things.

What components using (including monitor and ports using for connecting it)?

asus z97-e BIOS 0603
samsung evo 850 250 gb SSD
i7-4790K with stock fan
2 x 4GB G.Skil ripjawsX (in DIMM A1 and B1)
LG DVD-Writer SATA
Antec earthwatts 500 PSU
Antec Sonata case, front USB ports connected to one of the internal USB 2.0 headers
1 standard case fan that came with the case.
Using Samsung BX2450 monitor, connected via motherboard HDMI port
Running windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

I am not overclocking anything.
I was previously using the onboard VGA connector to connect to the Samsung monitor and saw the same behaviour.

When the problem happens, the case and CPU fans start running, I see the CD-ROM drive light flash on, and then nothing more, no post beep.
Turning off the switch on the back of the PSU and then back on, then the computer starts up fine.

Thanks for any help.

I have done at lot of trouble shooting on this (it takes a while as you have to wait many hours between each attempt).
The memory in my new machine is 1.6V RAM, and I wondered if this was causing the problem.
I tried a new Antec VP450 that I have in another new build I am doing. And I also tried the single stick of GSkil 4GB 1600 1.5V RAM from the other machine. I found with my PSU and the 1.5V RAM I would still see the no POST problem, but with the new PSU and the same 1.5V RAM the machine would post fine. I also tried my 1.6V RAM in the other system (AMD FM2+ motherboard) and did not see any problems with it.
The new PSU with my 1.6V RAM (either single or two sticks installed) still showed the no post problem.

Finally I found a good deal on the XFX XTR 550W PSU (haswell ready, 80+ gold) and so decided to buy it, and now I have been running with it two days and have not seen the post problem with this setup. So I guess maybe it really was a PSU problem.

Thanks for your help.
