The Maximus has a lot better audio chip, excellent OCing record and more SATA ports. If money is not an issue then Maximus is the preferred choice. Worth the money for the features it offer to a power user.
If you will be overclocking your CPU then the Maximus is the way to go.
Actually, in my opinion betweent the two I would go for the Maximus however it may be a bit more expensive but worth the money. But if money is an issue, then theGigabyte is the way to go.

Both will OC reasonably well. It's a matter of preference. I have had good luck with both brands. I did get a Deluxe Asus board years ago - hardly use any of the bells & whistles. See which board has the "goods" that you need.

performance wise maximus is superior ? this is the build by now - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6fBYRB, gpu i have not decided yet
Nice build with the mobo. Will you be getting a HDD, for gamign a 250GB SSD is not enough. For your GPU I recommend a 770 and above for Nvidia or a 280 and above for AMD if these cards are within your budget.
Actually both are superb boards. The Maximus has a marginal lead over GB in this case. If the price difference is really high, then its not worth the extra bucks as your build will work excellently on the GB one as well.
PS: Why the 212X? The Noctua D14 is cheaper, quieter, better cooler and totally worth the price.
The Maximus VII Hero, is the real Hero. I recommend the Hero over the Gigabyte mobo, assured. (More gaming features, more features, better quality, superb OC design, overall superb.) 😀 It's the best for you requirements (gaming, EMP, etc.).
hell no broo these cards are totally out of my budget almost 450$ here in india :s and yess i ll be getting a hdd as well but very confused about what to go for 🙁 i want speed and reliability
As music takes up alot of space, I'd recommend a 2TB or 1TB bare minimum. I'd prefer Seagate or WD for that matter. Barracuda is good for general storage and Constellation for greater reliability.
