I have 2x8g g.skill ares dual channel memory in the 1&2 slots, which I assume are A1 and A2. There is no color code, everything is black and there is nothing about dual channel mode in the manual. I got a message from userbenchmark that my memory might not work in dual channel mode, because I got relative low scores with it. It beeps and goes into a reboot loop with any other combination (1&3, 2&4, 3&4) and when I restore it to 1&3 I got an overclock failed message, so I go to BIOS, save & exit without any changes and everything works again, strange behavior... How can I ensure it is in dual channel mode?

Solution

It might be a bent pin in the CPU socket. For testing each slot you'd power off, install single RAM, start the board and see if POST-ing. If yes, power off, move the RAM to the next slot and repeat. And so on.

How should I do that? I thought it boots only with A1 if I use a single module only. Is it possible that the B slots are damaged somehow?

It's a kit as far as I remember. I bought them as 16GB dual channel memory half year ago.

It does not boot with the B slots. Does that mean that they are damaged?

A read a few posts about this problem, the bent pin on mobo, memory controller damage in the cpu, etc is common. Since the cpu is an i5-4670k and I bought it with a dual channel and a single channel memory in the a1 and a2 slots, I think the previous owner killed the b channel with oc with the other dual channel module and added a single channel module after that. I can't do much about this, I bought it in january. I'll go to a computer shop and ask them to test the cpu in a different mobo, maybe just the motherboard is faulty which would be less expensive than the cpu. If I remember well there is no bent pin on the motherboard. At least I use to check it before installing the cpu.
