ASUS Z97 Pro Wifi Internet Issue

Hi, just built a new PC with an ASUS Z97 pro Wifi motherboard. Other components below:

-Intel i5 4690K
-Asus Geforce GTX 980
-Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600
-Samsung SSD 850 pro
-Running Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
-Router - Netgear dual band N600

Comptuer seems to work great so far (except for coil whine on that ASUS card...separate issue), except that the internet seems very slow. I do use the Wifi controller, and when I speed test my connection, I am getting download speeds of 1-7 Mbps (I pay for 24). With my phone and laptop in the same location of the house I get 22 Mbps. My old PC was in the same spot in the house with an older Wifi adapter and always had fast speeds as well... so I am confident that the issue is the new computer and not the router or phisical issues with the house. I have "full bars" on the wifi status bar, and the connection to the router appears to be good. I have the latest drivers for the wifi adapter from ASUS's website, and I tried disabling window's firewall with no luck.

My questions are.... does this sound like a problem with the wifi adapter? Are there software or driver issues that might cause this problem? Is there some way to firmly diagnose it as a hardware issue? Anyone else with this mobo had similar issues?

Thankyou everyone for your help!!!

Interesting post. I have same identical specs except I'm on windows 10 and using Linksys WRT2400AC. Did you by any chance figure out a fix on this?

i also have a z97-pro wifi ac and i am having this same issue i have tried upgrading the driver from the asus website but it has not fixed this issue.
i pay for 6mbps . but my asus picks up 0 - 1 Mbps which is not cool. doing anything internet wise on this machine unless plugged in with a cord is impossible. for an asus board that talks about being wifi superior... I expected the driver update to resolve the issue like with the old z87's but this isnt the case.

anyone figure out how to fix this yet ?

specs :
windows 7 ultimate
sony ssd
kingston ddr3
geforce 790
i5
router is an old versalink 7500 from at&t

It's been a long time since I've posted on this issue... two possible issues are the USB 3.0 ports which are too close to the WiFi antenna and the issue of smaller antennas/lower location of the antennas vs the other wireless devices.

On the USB 3.0 ports, you can try disabling the rear USB 3.0 ports to see if that helps, also check to see if anyone else has noticed interference from the USB 3.0 on this board. Note that USB 3.0 has to be shielded since it runs at the same frequency as WiFi and will interfere with it, I can't tell by looking at the board but it does look like the rear USB ports may be unshielded and is definitely too close to the WiFi components for comfort.

On the height of the antennas, the higher the antenna is the less junk there is to interfere with the WiFi signal (think furniture, cabinets, toys... etc). Also the signal strength around a WiFi AP (or router) is similar to a horizontal doughnut/donut with the center hole being the AP/router, imagining this imagery in your home may assist to determine why signal strength is low in a given area. Just imagine a straight line from your wireless device to your AP/router and things should make sense (assuming that there is no external interference of course)

Please reply if either of these suggestions have helped or not, it helps to know where my suggestions succeed or fail so that I can re-examine the issue for things I might of missed.

I have exactly the same problem when I connect to my router with the old G and N standard using 2.4 GHz. When I switch to the AC-standard which uses 5 GHz, the problem seems to disappear. Maybe it's possible to tweak some of the settings on the network adaptor? Yesterday I updated the drivers to 7.35.xxx-something, without any positiv results regarding the download and upload speed.
