Just built new system. After an overnight stay in sleep mode, system will not wake-up. Q-Code displays E1 error code (S3 Boot Script execution). After reboot, system works fine. System re-awakes from sleep mode OK, except if left overnight. Others have reported similar issues but no answer yet found? Any help would be appreciated :) Thank you!

Sounds like PSU, know changing them out is a PITA but migth be best, if that isn't it then you would have bought an unneeded one and have to return for refund (or could keep it around for emergencies, (I do systems for a living so keep a couple a extra around :) )

Thank you for responding. Yes, the latest BIOS is 2403: I did update that upon installation of the MOBO. I just double checked updates for all other drivers and it seems that all drivers are up-to-date. I chose the Corsair HX PSU because it was on the approved list. The RAM and the CPU are on the approved list as well.

Yes, I e-mailed ASUS earlier today and they just haven't had time to respond yet. The only perhaps related issue is that upon boot the CPU fan haltingly starts and stops 2-3 times as the post goes thru its paces before the fan spins-up and stays running. I have another box that I built four months ago, same MOBO, CPU, and RAM but different power supply and HD, and upon boot that CPU fan does not do that stopping and starting routine? Seems odd.

I would not have thought to do that but a very good idea. One of the PSU's is modular, the other is not, and the other machine is the only one I have currently up and running so I am anxious about taking it down. Maybe slightly diff idea is to get another HX PSU shipped here. It will just slide in and replace the one now installed without changing any of the cabling as the PSU is fully modular. Something is telling the CPU fan to start and stop, and the fan responds, so it is likely the PSU like you suggest, or whatever part that tell the PSU what to do? BIOS?

OK, thought about it, new one same make/model be here in 3 days. Without your input I would still be thinking about what to do. I'll let you know when I hear from ASUS and what happens with replacement PSU. :):) Many Thanks!!

Well, heard back from ASUS. They also suggest either a bad PSU or an issue with BIOS. I have been using the most recent BIOS on default settings. Installed replacement Corsair HX850i PSU yesterday: same problem this morning with Q-Code E1 error.

The other build I have with the same MOBO, RAM, and CPU has a Rosewill Capstone 750W PSU that is not on ASUS's approved list but Rosewill states is Haswell ready. That box does not produce Code E1 Errors.

I suppose I could turn off "Sleep". Or try a PSU from a different manufacturer. The Rosewill Capstone 750W has been superceded by a model that does not state Haswell ready. Can also try contacting Corsair Tech Support.

Not sure what else to do.

Seems to me the issue is still likely to be the HX850i PSU as the PSU fan shuts off at low power consumption
(< say 300 watts) and that seems to interfere with the smooth running of the CPU fan during Boot.

I contacted Corsair Tech Support. They were very receptive and supportive and offered to get their engineers involved.

Your experienced voice haunted me so I did what you first suggested and put the Rosewill PSU from the old system in the new system: no ERROR CODE E1 yet. I also put the HX850i from the new system in the old system: no ERROR CODE E1 yet there either.

Today I received a new replacement factory stock CPU Fan to replace the stock CPU Fan that started and stopped haltingly during POST every time a POST STATE LED light lit-up. That solved the CPU Fan issues and the new fan spins-up as it should w/o all those starts and stops.

Further testing for a couple more days will tell if the ERROR CODE E1 issue is resolved or not. I suspect now that the bad CPU Fan might have caused the 'S3 Boot Script execution' CODE E1 ERROR.

Thank you for all your help.

Tradesman1:

ERROR CODE E1 has not reappeared after replacing the CPU Fan. I installed an HX850I PSU in each of the two boxes. Both boxes are now the same except for the HD: one is 1T and the other is 2T in size. Both boxes come out of sleep as expected now. During an overnight sleep the CPU Fan on the new box stays running; the fan on the old box shuts off. C6/C7 sleep in BIOS set to Auto on both boxes. Whatever the difference is seems to be of no consequence. Thank you for your kind advice.:):):)
