Greetings everyone,

I just recently purchased an Asus Z9PA-D8 motherboard together with Xeon E5 2609 v2 processor. For now I only need to use 128GB of ram so 4x32GB LRDIMM sounds like a good option to me. This way it will be future future proof just in case if I want to add 2nd processor and another 128GB of ram. My question is what type of memory speed I should go with? the system will be used for hosting file server/media streaming with 96TB of storage atm (will add more in the future), OS is freenas 9.3 64bit.

according to Intel, the processor only support up to 1333mhz

according to asus's specs page I can use 1866mhz 32GB LRDIMM along with E5-2600 v2 product family

but asus's documentation says differently, only 1333mhz for 32GB LRDIMM (page xii)

should I go with 1866 or just 1333? will 1866 automatically downgrade to 1333 due to chipset limitation? any advice would help. Thks

regards

Solution
Go with the motherboard - http://www.asus.com/au/Commercial_Servers_Workstations/Z9PAD8/specifications/ - which says - "DDR3, 1066/1333, LRDIMM"

So - 1333
