Hi,

I have had Win 7 Pro x64 installed since building my workstation 2 years ago.

I just purchased a new SSD for the O/S so want to do a clean install using the retail Microsoft Win 7 Pro DVD I have, but this time take advantage of the UEFI features, instead of installing using the old legacy Bios..

I have already found a few articles on how to clean install from DVD or USB with UEFI, but what these articles are not very clear on is the bios setting before installation..

I've made a list of the bios settings concerning UEFI in the Bios, (I'm using the latest Bios 5701)

Launch CSM Boot Option ROM : Always / Never
Launch PXE OpROM Policy : UEFI & Legacy / Legacy / UEFI Only
Launch Storage OpROM Policy : UEFI & Legacy / Legacy / UEFI Only
Launch Video OpRom Policy : UEFI & Legacy / Legacy / UEFI Only
Other PCI Device OpRom Polocy : UEFI & Legacy / Legacy / UEFI Only

What settings need to be applied before inserting the DVD for O/S installation, and what settings need to be changed after O/S install?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Hi Suztera,

Thanks for the reply and the link.

The link is very clear and easy to understand, but again like the other guides I have read, doesn't really go into the bios settings other than the CSM parameter at the beginning.

Do all the other settings I have listed need to be set to UEFI only before O/S installation?

I have also read that GPT boots faster then MBR, is this correct?

If you want full UEFI you disable CSM and that's it. You can turn on fast boot if you have that option.
If you want partial support for legacy devices then leave the CSM at auto.
There is minor/no difference between MBR and GPT speed.

Ok Understood.

Thanks for your help Suztera.
